DMF failure symptoms

Hey folks, clutch has gotten weak in the car, and became noticeably worse a few weeks back I dropped the clutch and instead of shooting off I was stationary in a stinking cloud of clutch fumes/dust.
Other thing I noticed is in first gear, a clack when I come off the accelerator and another clack as I come back on.
Some slight shudder past couple of years, nothing untowards.
Car is driving grand, I just go easy on the take offs and that.
Just wondering does this fit the bill for DMF failure - especially the clack-clack.
Oh and I stalled the car the other day, sounded like someone dropped a rubbish bag full of cans and spanners.

    2003 Passat 1.8t 120,000 miles.

It'd be very unusual to see DMF failure in a petrol car of that vintage. Does the model even use a DMF at all?

Sounds more like clutch is worn.

Agreed, sounds like the friction plate springs are starting to collapse.
Best get it seen to asap. Once they go they can cause a whole lot of damage.

Is there any vibration from the clutch pedal? Like when you're pulling off in first, or if you rest your foot on the pedal with foot on the throttle.
