Why would an established primary school have no inspection reports?

    We are moving and my daughter will have to change school. I think I have decided on the school she will attend but I am curious as one of the schools in the area has no website, no inspection reports, and is not designated Deis. It has 400 pupils and has been around for more than 20 years. It used to have a rough reputation apparently.

    Why no inspection report?

    Have you checked the actual inspectorate website or school website for inspection reports?

    They don't have a website and I checked education.ie and schooldays.ie

    Is there another website where the report might be?

    School inspection reports are tricky to find
    Maybe just Google 'xxxxxxxx school inspectors report '

    Maybe some schools have never had an inspection!

    Had a check and nothing there. Probably hasn't had a whole school inspection since publication of reports online began. Think that was around 2006. They may have had incidental inspections "drop ins" but department don't publish these.

    There might be a regional forum on boards with discussion about the school. Or you could put up the name there and ask for info of other posters (dunno if you have to just specify replies by Pm).

    How about phoning department up and ask Inspectorate directly? It may save you some time beating about the web?

    Would it have changed name? I agree it's quite odd for a school to go that long without at least one visit.

    So it's agreed that it is strange. I'm not interested in my daughter attending the school so it's not important just odd. For curiosity sake I will get in touch with the inspectorate to see if there is a reason. I will post the answer

    They may not have had a full inspection since reports went online. Drop in inspections or incidentals, as they are known are not published online. As a previous poster mentioned, reports have been online since 2006 or so. General rule of thumb is one wse every 10 years so this school could be due to get one shortly.
    The dept have changed inspection format a bit this year are there is a range of inspections now. I'm not too sure which ones will be online. (I'd better take a look at that purple book ;) )

    Ask around locally anyway. You might get a better picture that way. The language of the wse is always very general, especially in recent years.

    If they have had " drive bys" aka incidentals and there were no issues with the school the school may have not been prioritized for inspections. It's a long time though. As to websites, not all schools have someone willing to take the website on ,especially under the moratorium for the appointment for post holders.

    Are you looking for the correct name? Some schools may be commonly known as one name but the official name is something else. Many schools may be officially known by the Irish version of the name either.

    If you use the following link - http://www.education.ie/en/Find-a-School/ - and scroll the page to School Search:-

    1. Select School Level as Primary;
    2. Select relevant geographical area i.e. County or in the case of Dublin - D4, D6, etc;
    3. Select Gender i.e Boys - Girls or Mixed.
    Ignore Ethos and Language of Instruction;

    With 3 criteria selected, Click Search and A map will appear (or should appear) that can be expand. When expanded - the name of the school can be displayed by hovering cursor over the marker on the location of the school.

    This will get you on the right track for statrers.....???
