Provisional expired more than 5 years, do I need to do lessons?

I had a search and couldn't find anything specific to this so sorry if its been asked before.

I've had 2 provisonal licenses, both issued before April 2011, and the last one is expired more than 5 years.

Am I correct in saying that I will need to resit the theory test, but will not have to do the mandatory 12 hours of lessons?

    Thanks

My wife's provisional expired over 5 years. Had to book a test to get a new provisional...

There is a cut off date from which you need to to do the 12 hour of lesson which is on the NDLS website or if you call them up they will confirm.
Mine had expired about 4-5 years and I was OK. Like the poster above I had to apply for my test again and away I went.

I was in the same boat, just renewed my provisional now. I had left it alone for approximately 5 years so obviously had to do the theory test again and apply for the test.

At the NDLS they said that if I waited another 2 weeks I'd have to start from scratch and do the 12 lessons, the countdown starts 5 years after expiry.

As above, if you're in any doubts about the timing and whether or not your last permit has been expired for 5 years or more, the best thing to do is call the NDLS.

Just to be clear- if your last permit is 5 or more years out of date and you don't have any other record (eg a full motorcycle licence, for example) you are back at the very start of the process as if you've never held a permit. If this describes your situation, you would have to get a fresh theory test, eyesight report, PPSN proof of address- the whole nine yards and you will have to do the mandatory lessons, I'm afraid. If someone in your position had kept their learner permit in date (ie expired less than five years) they would have been exempted from the 12 EDT lessons.
