Formula 1 2016: Round 20 - Brasilian Grand Prix

Second last round of the F1 championship. Rosberg can win the WDC by winning the race, whatever Hamilton does. If he only comes in second, Lewis needs to be third to stay in the race. Rosberg can play it safe and score a second and a third to claim his first title. So the question is, if Hamilton will start playing dirty or plans to simply win both races and hope for the best.

Rain and Thunderstorm are predicted for all three days of the weekend.

Sennas win at Brasil, with a car stuck in sixth gear while in the rain.

    Edit reread the post :)

Lewis must win this weekend to guarantee it going to the final round.

    19 points in it atm

Nico 1st Lewis 2nd gives a 26 point gap so game over.

    Lewis wins and.....

    Nico finishes

    2nd 12 point gap
    3rd. 9 point gap

    Game on territory now

    4th 6 point gap
    5th 4point gap

    Etc etc etc .............

That can't be right? Lewis could crash out in the first corner and as long as Nico doesn't score 6 or more points then he still has a chance in the last race. Probably lots of permutations for it going another race, realistically though Lewis needs a win and bugger all points for Nico. Fingers cross for that scenario anyway so we get a tense finale. :D

FP1: Hamilton - Verstappen - Rosberg Usual picture of Mercedes taking it slow or hope?

Some rain predicted for the race on Sunday :) We laughed when Bernie suggested sprinklers (we still do), but a wet track certainly spices things up. Also, Williams were surprisingly 3rd and 4th in second practice with some good pace too. Hopefully they can follow that up with decent quali and race pace too after such a dour season so far.

I'm going to watch the 2003 race later. That race was a classic.

I hope that Kimi was right and there is rain in Q2. I think that's what he said.

I just love the way the track at Interlagos rises and falls. A great circuit.

Was it last year or the year before they stopped Cars crossing the pit lane line up the hill in Brazil ? Or have I mixed it up with somewhere else.

No you're correct. There was a couple of close calls with people following cars to get a tow only for the car being followed to slow and enter the pits.

Part of me is a but gutted for Massa with that but then I remember that both Force India's are through to Q3. Suck it Williams :p

    Hamilton on pole just.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Rosberg was faster in S1 and although Hamilton had a better S2, Rosberg was still in with a shout. Hamilton seemed to get a cleaner finish to the lap, talk is the race may be a wet start which is bad. Any decent rain they will start behind the safety car. I'd love a dry start and some rain during the race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,474 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Seemed close at the end, was annoying that they kept showing Wolf and Lauda, when they could have showed more of Rosbergs lap

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭17larsson

Safety car starts are the single worst thing about Formula 1.

There are other things of course but as a spectacle, for the pinnacle of motorsport, to turn the most exciting and tense moment in any sport, that I follow anyway, into a procession is unforgivable.

I really hope it's a dry start and Rosberg gives it a good go at turn 1

Rosberg seems much closer this weekend than in Mexico, which is good. Wonder if he can take the fight to Hamilton?

First corner in Brazil nearly always has some sort of incident.

Brilliant introduction to Sebastian Vettel by Steve Jones on last night's Qualifying highlights. "The man who puts the eff into F1." :D

    This too shall pass.

He's getting better, Steve Jones. He was pretty ropey at the start of the year but seems to have settled now and isn't making a cock of himself every time he opens his mouth.

    Just every other time.

I can't abide him, or indeed Eddie Jordan, but then generally I only watch the race itself these days, and avoid the "build up" and all the after race interviews anyway, so he doesn't bother me that much.

Hopefully we'll get some mixed conditions rather than a pure wet race.

I think the ideal would be a slightly wet start, enough to need inters, but not enough for a safety car. Then the track drying out so we can see who will be brave and risk slicks first. And then a few showers throughout the race.

The only non bold way I can think of is if there isn't any other main sports event today, ask your local or a bookie really nicely.

    This too shall pass.

I've a bad feeling about this, 2 minutes before the start there'll be a small puddle on the start finish line. Then message from race direction "Full safety car start so lads"

    I pray it doesn't happen

VSC or SC confirmed for start. If conditions stay the same. F**K sake.

Mixed messages now. Charlie saying its a normal start now. We will see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭prettyboy81

Wet race start Rosberg loses control 1st corner & takes Hamilton plus himself out of the race! It wouldn't be like a German racer going for title taking out the great English driver.

    Mystic Mac :D

I will be livid if it's a safety car start. They should have learned from their mistake earlier this year and the uproar from fans and pundits about starting under a SC for that race.

It's all a bit stupid right now. Kravitz just said it is a SC start

I hope its a normal start - nothing worse than a sc or vsc to start the race - the races in the rain are some of the best races

I dont dislike Hamilton but I want Rosberg to win the championship so wouldn't it be great (not for Hamilton) if Hamilton crashed or was involved in a crash ending his race or forcing him back to the pits in the first turn that would be some race then if he ended up having to climb from the back to the front to try stop Rosberg winning
