Audi TT 2.0 TDi

    Looking at 2015 model, FWD, 2.0 TDI. Honest John seems to be pretty positive, just wondering if there is anything specific to look out for with these?

    Engines used in a lot of the vag range and there's no surprises there. It's pretty reliable and economical. I'd be surprised if there was any major worries that the warranty won't cover on the rest of it tbh.

    Go for the petrol! A nice car like that needs the lighter turbo petrol engine :cool:

    A heavy foot in a diesel is as bad as in a petrol. You'll only see significant gains in economy of you're doing long distance, with a hot engine at a steady, set pace. For everything else, there's petrol.

    I drove the last TT with diesel engine and the Peugeot RCZ diesel.
    I just could not believe how unsuited the diesel was to both cars. My advice. If you want a sports car, get it with the petrol engine. If you want a diesel, get an a4 or something like that.

    So, nothing to look out for apart from that it's not a petrol. Thanks for all the useful input about the specific model I was asking about.

    Its a one year old car..look for the usual diesel issues depending on mileage low or high..a diesel sports car is going to be ruinous in depreciation.

    Its a demo from an Audi Dealer. High spec and the depreciation is already started, it has dropped €11K on a bog standard, but has better spec. I don't know of any car that won't take a massive dive with depreciation, we would be trading an immaculate 2009 A6 2/0 TDi for about 15% of what we paid for it new.

    That model TT would have been launched back in 2007 so by 2015 any major bugs or problems should have been well sorted.

    It's using the same 2.0 TDI that's in a whole host of other VAG cars from Golf's to Octavia's, Passats, Superbs and a whole load of Audi's. I think they are a pretty reliable unit, no major issues that I know of.

    What BHP is it? 180-ish? It's probably the same variant that's in the Golf GTD.

    New model brought out in 2014. 184BHP. 18 months left on original warranty. Only 17K on it.

    Thats it. OH wants one, the PCP seems a very good deal on it, although you can probably only do 8 kilometres a year, hand over your first born, swear an oath to Beelzebub - you know the sort of thing.

    Effectively the same car under the covers as the MK7 Golf GTD then. I'd have no concerns re reliability, that engine's been reliably around a fair while now, both in the GTD and the Octavia VRS and probably other VAG variants.

    Thanks for that. The killing thing is, I've always wanted a TT, a proper rip-snorting petrol quattro. Herself felt safer in the A6, which was originally mine, so we swapped. Now its time to change and she gets my dream car.....NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
    TBH, at 184BHP the diesel would do me fine anyway. Same garage has a year older 170BHP quattro there in black and its a nice machine too.

    Decision made - she went and sat into a demo TT......apparently 5'10" women and TT's don't mix. TT is out, Q2 is in.

    Not really. She could have bought an 03 A4 TDi and asked me to get RS badges on it......:D

    In fairness the Q2 is very nice, a world away from the TT though.

    Kinda hijacking this thread as my question is around TTs and there seem a few TT lovers here.

    I'm looking at getting one between now and Christmas from the UK. What catches my eye is a TFSI 2.0 Quattro with the s-tronic auto box. Lovely power and good specs while still bearable on the tax front. Anyway...

    My question is is that Quattro always on in those or do you switch the AWD on and off manually? And when/if off is the car a FWD or an RWD then?

    I'm on my 3rd haldex based cars, have also had 2 Torsen (mechanical based quattro) cars in the past. day to day driving it's impossible to tell the differences between the two. Also pretty much all the haldex cars i've had have worn rear tyres quicker than the front so don't believe the mainly FWD that a lot of reviewers (mostly detractors ) will mention .

    I currently have a 2.0 TFSI based car (S3) and love it, would have loved an S tronic but the budget didn't stretch that far. The 2.0 TFSI is a great engine. Just make sure it's had regular haldex servicing.

    Some things to google on the 2.0TFSI are 'cam follower' (need to see some evidence of that having been changed or at leasrt checked - its a cheap part only 20e or so but important) and oil usage - they like to burn a drop of oil.
