Hi. Engine Management Light came on tonight on Toyota 1.4 D4D 2008.
Can still driving but has 'cut out' a few times whilst driving but started again with a turn of the ignition each time.
Maybe a Lambda sensor or an airflow switch.?
Any advice or a quick fix appreciated.??
    Thanks

No point in guessing, get the codes read and go from there.

Get yourself a cheap fault reader, will give you the basics, less than €20.

Some on Adverts or search for ODBOBD reader on Ebay, plenty of them around.

[...] search for ODB reader [...]

OBD reader would be much better I think. :D

Got a diagnostic check done. Showed up as an airflow sensor. Reset the engine management light and drove a short distance. Engine cut out, but restarted on second attempt. Was driving ok but light stayed on.
Replaced the 'faulty' sensor, not new, but proved working in another car.
Reset the engine management light, everything seemed ok. Driving perfect.
After driving for 5 days/few hundred kms the same problem arose again.
    Any further ideas appreciated.
    Thanks.

Get a new sensor, if the sensors are weak in anyway then getting a second hand one is ujst going to end up the same.

    Thanks jonny,
I had thought about that too. But spending €200 plus on a new 1 to find out that the problem remains and its something like a lambda sensor or bad connection etc is the main reason I was asking.

What is the fault code, what does it say?

If the system sees the air quantity is not what it expects to see it may flag a fault code, but it doesn't have to mean the airflow sensor is at fault.

Mechanic only told me the fault code pointed to the airflow sensor. Had his diagnostic tool plugged into the connector in the drivers side footwell. He reset the engine light from there and advised getting a replacement sensor. After a short drive engine cut out but started again on the second attempt with the light again staying on.
I replaced the sensor, drove for 50kms and the light went out by itself. (removing the battery lead for a short time failed)
Drove for 5 days, all was ok, then suddenly the engine cut out again and the light returned.
Since I posted yesterday, the light has now reset itself after driving 30kms approx.
    Slightly baffled....
