Anybody familiar with SH Motors on the Naas Road

    Hi all:

I am considering buying a car from a dealer I came across on Donedeal and I was just wondering if anybody is familiar with the dealer. According to solocheck, the company was registered in June 16 so relatively new.

The dealer is SH Motors (shmotors dot ie) but it seems to be linked to a number of websites inc hughesmotors dot ie and hughesmotorsdublin dot ie.

The car in question is a 4 series BMW & he is looking for an 8k deposit (payable by cheque) upfront which seems a little steep to me. He seems like a very genuine guy but I would like some reassurance before I go handing over 8k to a stranger. Following the supposed location on google maps I can't seem to find the dealership anywhere.

That it was only set up in June of this year and is located in the notorious naas / long mile road area should give you pause. I'd be wary and do a good bit more research before handing over any money.

Why is that area notorious? Dodgy dealers?

Car dealers in that area are well known for setting up, then closing shortly afterwards and opening up the following day under a different name. Not much good to you if you have to go back to them with a problem with the car.

Which does seem to be the case here as they have had at least 3 different websites all under slightly different names. Maybe best to steer clear. Thanks lads.

    No maybe about it imo.

If you Google the phone number it comes back Sean, but associated with a few different dealerships - Dunne Motor Services, Brogan Motors, Hughes Motors & SH Motors.

The 2004 525d M-Sport on Hughes site, is still on the Brogan Motors site as well.

It's possible he's been a trader for a while, selling stuff from other premises and has finally got enough together to start out on his own.

Seem to be located near the old CAT building on the Naas Road, but there are loads of smaller dealers around that area.

Yeah, I noticed that myself and wasn't sure what to make of it. He seems genuine enough, apparently, it's himself and his father running the place. What I find the strangest is he is happy to take a cheque as a deposit tomorrow then let me take the car Friday following payment of the rest of the balance by another cheque. So essentially he will let me drive off in the car without waiting for the cheques to clear. Seems odd, no?

Yeah. Did he actually say that, no mix-up, thinking you meant bank draft etc?

If so then I'm away up to buy a new Audi off him with a cheque. Boing boing boing, bounce bounce bounce.

Yep, I even clarified several times cause I was sure that couldn't be right. I suggested paying the deposit now and then the remainder next Friday but he said it would be ready this Friday and I could take it then.

I've bought of these kind of dealers before and treat them the same as I would a private sale.
Get it checked out by a decent mechanic.

Maybe I've just been lucky though?

A 4 Series BMW is valued at a fair bit of dosh to be buying from a dealer that should be treated like a private sale.

His stock is mainly UK imports; the car in question is a 14 model with 10k miles. It seems very good for the money its going for. Also, cartell report is clear.

If its a UK import I'd get a HPI check done in the UK too

Nearly got burned before on a clocked motor where the cartel was clear but the HPI check wasnt

Like everyone I suppose, to find my latest car I turned to the internet . Knowing exactly what make and model I wanted this garage showed up as having two in stock . Having dealt with main dealers over the years the way Hughes Motors do business is refreshing . Couldnt recommended Sean and Aidan enough. After sales experience has been 100% when I change in a couple of years i will definitely be back

Lol. You forgot to mention your opening hours.

Maybe I'm getting cynical but going to the trouble of registering a new account just to dig up an old thread and praise a business sounds a bit desperate to me.

As alot have said this area can be very suspect regarding insolvency of companies then spring up as a company of similar naming or branding.
Always be careful when purchasing a new car.

First post to bring back a thread to promote a company.

    It looks like shilling.

    Thread closed.
