Sorry OP, I detest shopping centres so I can't recommend.

But if you are twenty something, well, Liffey Valley and Dundrum tick the boxes.

I love the city centre, Grafton and Henry Street. Just me though I suppose.

Blanch is a sprawling shopping area and better priced than Dundrum

Blanch. Free parking. Everything you can think of out there. Don't really like dundrum except for Hanleys

There's a few shops on the Ballyfermot road which sell everything, from groceries clothes to drugs, it's all there and parking is cheap.

There is a Dublin forum on boards where you'll get a proper answer to this question. Be wary about what you read in here in After Hours.

In AH you'll get answers like Dundrum and Blanch whereas we all know it's Northside Shopping Centre.

They're all pretty much the same aren't they?*

I suppose if you want a shopping day in Dublin then the city centre is the way to go .......... you have Jervis, Ilac, Stephens Green and all the shops in between.

Whoever mentioned Dundrum needs a brain transplant. Blanchardstown shopping centre is the only shopping centre for a twenty year old.

Have to agree with this, I've bought at least one jacket, some socks and jocks and a few scratch cards in Donaghmede over the last 30 or so years. Free parking and a door to the pub actually inside the shopping centre itself

I'm out there a fair amount for footballing reasons and so sing the song every single time I pass it.

I always thought it wasn't that big a shopping centre!

Northside had Crazy Prices back in the day didn't it? I think there was some extension to the song with 'Home of Crazy Prices' or something like that

Dundrum caters to 16 year old girls and nobody else, and has the balls to charge you for parking to.

3 hours free parking if you buy €30 of booze for example, in tesco.
16 year old girls cant drive and cant buy booze though.

Don't leave it too late to go to Blanch or the traffic will be mental, and if it's raining it'll be mental regardless of what time you go as people abandon their other plans and go shopping instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,632 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

I would recommend St Stephen's Green, Jervis Street Shopping Centre & Dundrum.

I remember years ago going to Blanch about 3 weeks before christmas. Normally a 30 min drive from my house turned into 2hrs by the time I got parking, once I entered the centre it was like something out of a zombie apocalpse.

I knew I would freak out if I walked any further so I turned around and got the fcuk outa there. Felt like a right gobsh*te for wasting all that time for nothing. Guess you live and learn.

You could always buy your own - Mountview Shopping Centre guiding €1.85m

According to a plaque on the wall downstairs Blackrock won Shopping Centre of the Year in 1985, if that's any help.

As for Dundrum, an elderly neighbour summed it perfectly thus: all fur coat and no knickers. And they charge for parking.

Blanchardstown has most choice and is by far the largest shopping centre in Dublin (although the traffic jams are annoying). And parking is free.

The only shops I can think of that are really geared toward teenage girls are bershka and hollister. A lot of young girls "hang around" there but it's absolutely not just catering for them. I won't go listening the shops that it has but it caters for most demographics.

Also I read elsewhere on boards that charging for parking was a condition of their planning permission. Though they did increase their rates this year which pissed a lot of people right off. €2 was grand for 3 hours but I'd prefer to go to blanch for free.

I'm not a fan of dundrum btw, I hate its layout, it's missing a couple of key shops, the entire arcadia group had a disagreement with the centre when it was being built as Dundrum refused to allow them to rent shops beside each other so your topshop/dorothy perkins/burton etc are all missing. There's no New Look which is a feature in every other centre I can think of, even northside and dun laoghaire. I just thing it being only for teenage girls isn't quite right.

I absolutely hate shopping but I did recently discover blanchardstown and reckon it's probably the best around between all the retail parks and the main centre.

    Sounds like something I'd do.

I like to be in a shopping centre when everyone else is turning over mid dream and gone before their morning glory has been wasted :p

Shopping is bad enough but shopping in busy shops is hell on earth.

Including stormtroopers checking for parking. Horrible, horrible place to go. Dún Laoghaire is, far and away, the worst and ugliest place to shop in Dublin. With councillors Donal Marren, Richard Humphreys and the rest absolutely determined to keep it as Ireland's most royalist hole (look at every single streetname, and their memorial to the Famine Queen), fúck those arseholes thinking they can charge me for parking when Stillorgan Shopping Centre up the road has more choice and free parking. To read that in the depths of recession they paid tens of thousands for the education fees of some of their councillors just sealed it for me. That's where your parking money is going. A corrupt gravy train milked by the dominant Labour-Fine Gael clique. Avoid. Let its decline be even more rapid than it already is.
