I have a delivery from Amazon that was marked as for delivery today and it is in the Dublin 12 mail centre "EXT" since yesterday evening, I would have expected it to travel to Carlow overnight and arrive for the postman this morning at about 6am but it is still in Dublin.

Does anyone know what this Dublin 12 Mail Centre "EXT" is? are An Post holding the parcel for some reason?

Never seen that code but I find AP's tracking codes aren't accurately descriptive or correct (Recently had items put in the DU but scanned so I thought they were on a van for 3 days).

Is it likely that the item would be held by Customs? (phone/tech that looks valuable).

just a home phone sold by Amazon.co.uk so should not be of interest to Customs, It might arrive tomorrow?

    Any luck with your package?
Mine stuck in there as well since Monday (14th) and even before that It was not traceable on anpost.ie at all, while according to Netherlands post (coming from there) it landed in Ireland on 9th Nov.
And even more, when called anpost customer service today, they said that can not see that at all anywhere, while trackin and trace says (to me but not them obviously) that package is in DUBLIN MAIL CENTRE EXT, DUBLIN 12....

There are at least 5 parcels being held in

    DUBLIN MAIL CENTRE EXT
    DUBLIN 12

for delivery to my address since at least last Thursday and one at least from Last Wednesday night.

What is going on with the postal service here?

Larger parcels get delivered with a next day service but all the smaller parcels go into this place and vanish for days! have staff taken them home to check them for valuables? they all came from Amazon!

They should all have been sent to Carlow DSU this morning for delivery to my address this morning but they never arrived!

My postman(parcel guy) has already been and gone with one parcel send on Friday which went through the other depot in Dublin for larger parcels!

From your accounting of it you'd think Dublin(Packets/Mail) is backlogged and Portlaoise(Parcels) is working ok, but Ive seen fine flow through Dublin.

Have you been flagged for suspicious activities Foggy?

All coming from Amazon so shouldn't be any real issues They don't deliver bomb parts to Ireland:(

It appears large parcels get sent to one depot in Dublin and get delivered to the regions at the start of the next working day, while all the others go to this Dublin 12 mail centre "EXT" place and get delayed for several days. Maybe they are trying to fill a lorry with small parcels for Carlow DSU only?

I got a larger parcel this morning which went through the other parcel depot and although it was posted on Friday evening from Dublin it was delivered this morning, so it must have gone to the depot on Friday and stayed there over the weekend till it went to Carlow early Monday morning(about 4am) and was then delivered by postie in a van.

Whatever they are doing there is no need for it as it is delaying parcels!

Here is the list of Amazon deliveries waiting for me in that EXT place, and the last item which is a larger parcel which is the only one I expect to be delivered tomorrow morning:mad:

I had a package (from Amazon UK too) sit in that depot from last Monday until it was delivered today - seems like there's a bit of a backlog there alright.

My Amazon package that was shipped on 27th finally showed up on the tracking system this morning, its in that depot too. Hopefully I get it before Christmas

Two of my "EXT" parcels have been shipped off to Carlow DSU, one from 1st of December and one from yesterday! it looks like their multi million euro parcel sorting system is simply a game of chance!

I'm having exactly the same problem with a parcel from amazon, I ordered the same date as you too.

I've been onto An Post about it and they tell me that i should wait til monday til the AY backlog is scheduled to be completely cleared before filling out a form for lost/stolen post.

Tbh, i'm thinking my stuff was stolen at this stage. Was supposed to be delivered on monday

Has your item been sitting in depot or not showed up at all?

I thought mine was lost/stolen but since the tracking worked for the first time yesterday I'm confident enough now it will show up.

Why accuse others of theft ? That's scurrilous.

Amazon seem to be overwhelmed. This Black Friday season I've had .uk parcels arrive on time via An Post, had .uk parcels arrive a week late via An Post, had a .uk parcel arrive late via UPS, have .fr arrive on time via I-Parcel, have .de arrive direct and early via An Post and on time via I-Parcel.

There's a bucket load of variables in the shipping and I've no doubt a few people are claiming non-delivery so they can get refunds and sell the items on the links of adverts.

An post are unable to handle the number of small parcels and packets in the last few weeks. Maybe raising the price of a stamp will help them.

I've encountered the same problem , an order from Amazon ( Xmas gifts , nothing that would flag it ) that was supposed to be deliver on Monday but has been sitting in this Dublin Mail Centre Ext Dublin 12 since 2.50pm on Monday , just checked tracking and it's still there :( If An Post are overwhelmed why don't they forward some of the stuff to Portlaoise for items that are delivered down the country ?

Considering the way the price of stamps has increased, I very much doubt it would help. Its a market which seems to be always decreasing too.

Thats Deutsche Post aka DHL, you might be able to track it here: www.dhl.de

I had a parcel go into the EXT depot on the 28th November, and it wasn't delivered until the 5th Dec, so a wait time of a week. I've had other parcels shipped at the same time, that also went into EXT, that were delivered about a week later too, but the status was never updated on the An Post tracking

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,373 ✭✭✭✭foggy_lad

Only one outstanding item now but it is not tracked as it is a ps4 game so will might be in a small card envelope. shipped on 2nd and delivery due next monday!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,761 ✭✭✭✭degrassinoel

Well, mine will be a week overdue on monday, so i've still a while to wait, anyone else have any joy with theirs yet?

I've called An Post about it and they were nice enough to ring the depot, the EXT place, local post office, and a few other places to ask about it, half hour phonecall with them so yeah.. it's not like they don't give a feck, they do. I don't mind the post being delayed at all, what bugs me is that it's overdue a few days now and i get no info from An Post or Amazon to tell me why, so i've to go chasing it myself.

Any idea what way this goes if it turns out as being lost or stolen? Would Amazon or An Post be liable?

I'd like to actually use the mouse i bought in their sale at some point, but if it's going to take weeks or months to resolve i'd rather just get a refund.

Amazon won't have any extra information to give you, because they will get their data from An Post. So if it's not updated on the An Post website, then it won't be updated on Amazon either. Remember too that Amazons delivery dates are only estimates (albeit good ones).

If you're fed up waiting, then get onto Amazon, as thats who your contract is with.

To be fair to An Post (and other carriers) Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the upcoming Christmas have all seen a surge in orders, so I'm not surprised that deliveries are being delayed, I reckon it's just sheer numbers

Just got the ps4 game that was dispatched on 2nd. It was sent from France via Swiss post and has a customs declaration attached! Any wonder it was delayed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,761 ✭✭✭✭degrassinoel

Just been onto Amazon, they've asked me to wait til the 14th to ensure it's not just delayed in the post. They offered a refund, but tbh i'd rather just have the stuff i bought. So, i'll wait, again.

Mad that it's been in dublin for so long at this stage too.

meh, well 10 days late and the last post has been and gone :/ looks like i was right about it being stolen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,761 ✭✭✭✭degrassinoel

    just to close this off..

Amazon replaced the items and sent them out again - they also refunded me the delivery charges.

Took delivery yesterday, so a happy ending after all :)
