The iconic bar that is Toblerone have decided to add a bigger gap between triangles due to increasing costs. It now looks ridiculous and destroys the iconic look that this bar once held. What was once 400g/170g is now 360g/150g.

This is probably the most pressing matter in world new today, what do you think? Do you agree with the new look because of rising costs. I don't, bad move on their part imo. I would rather they just increased the price and keep the look, or at worst just make the bar smaller but keep the original proportions.

What you think of the new look toblerone? 61 votes

    I like the new look

They should have made it proportinally smaller

I'll bet it's not even made with triangular honey from triangular bees anymore either.

    Anything to save costs.

Still plenty of the old type ones in Dealz.

Its effectiveness as an anal dildo has been surely compromised with less ridges?

Proportionally smaller. No harm making bars smaller, even if it's for self-interested reasons but the shape should remain as it was.

Agree with this, smaller bar isn't any harm but the new look is ridiculous, it looks like the anti-vehicle strips police deploy to stop criminals.

Better stock up on the ones in dealz in case of emergencies.

I saw a pic earlier and thought it had been photoshopped.

By the by...in the poll...why are people voting for keep the look but up the price? Who wants to pay more? How about leave it the fuck alone and pay the same or less?

This is a crime against confectionery!
Whoever came up with this should be sent to prism!

To save on costs they wrecked the iconic shape of the product. They should have added a few cent onto the price instead. Idiots.

    Spice burger syndrome.

Beloved of 30/40-somethings that haven't actually bought one for 20 years but react with fury to any tinkering with it.

If/when the cost of ingredients comes down, will they return the bars to their original weights?

    Like fvck they will!!!

Serious question....why can't you buy these anywhere other than airports

.is the tax wicked high or something

Costs have gone up on their side, something has to give, either charge more or put less chocolate in it. I want the same bar, an extra few cents is not going to make much of a difference, but less chocolate is going to leave me with a serotonin imbalance.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is just a viral hoax tbf.
Have the new bars actually gone on sale yet?

They'll probably magically renege on the change, and send everyone happy out to the shops to buy them for friends and family for Christmas...

Might also be a health and safety issue. Less pointy triangles to cause potential harm.

    BBC article on it: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-37904703
Mondelez said that "like many other companies, we are experiencing higher costs for numerous ingredients".

It added: "We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products."

    First Yorkie, and now this.

Haven't had a Toblerone in years.
    Probably won't get one now.

From what I can see with the new design, you can easily stick 2 of them together to make a toblerone sandwich and eat like a hot dog.

    Aint nothing wrong with that.

Iconic? Really? It's triangular chocolate FFS. Is this really going to change our lives?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

You'd think the design of the bar as it is would lend itself to easily changing the weight without issue. Just make it one section shorter,no?

But then you run into the yorkie problem where they are a letter short, or the bar would have to be called Tobleron

    750g Toblerone or nothing.

People tell me all the time they "definitely have them in X airport, I've seen them".

    They're all liars.

I don't know why they're so hard to get :(

It's a light-hearted thread. Of course it doesn't matter in the scheme of things. People are sometimes a bit nostalgic, amazingly. But others get their rocks off on being withering about that. These types of threads have something for everyone. :pac:

Not a fan of Toblerones TBH, I think they're pretty rank.

Nothing screams last minute present from a holiday more than a bag of duty free Toblerones.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,759 ✭✭✭Winterlong

Sometimes I hate these threads as they make me hungry for things that I should not have.

But this one inspired me to search the house for the wife's secret chocolate stash. Bingo - found it.
No toblerone though..but thieves cant be choosers I suppose.

Do you even know what 'iconic' means?

Despite any upsurge in sales to see these new bars, surely this is a marketing nightmare? I mean, the person who wrote this on a whiteboard must be getting some stick now. Who takes something so well known, and pretty much destroys the main thing you associate with the word Toblerone?!

    Nope.

    750g ones?

    Nope.

I saw them in Heathrow. And in Zurich airport. And Tunis. And LAX. And Auckland.
You should go to ALL these places just to see how wrong I am.
    Be a nice trip.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,409 ✭✭✭✭endacl

They appear to have left out every second 'Alp'.

Proposed solution, so we can put this thread to bed...

Buy two. Cut the triangles from the base of one, leaving a far more practical 'bar' of Toblerone. Transplant the triangles to the second, placing them in the gaps to make an old-style toblers.

    Job done.

Yeah, but your overweight luggage due to a large chocolate bar will increase the price of your ticket by at least 3 fold... well, maybe only 2 now because there is less chocolate.

    750g ones?

    Nope.
It's the big one that people would bring get in the airport.

    It's actually really fcking annoying.
Muppets in the UK vote for brexit because they are afraid of immigrants or something.
Sterling collapses driving up the cost of goods imported to the UK.
Companies importing to UK either increase prices or reduce quantity.

And we get hit with the knock on effect despite been in the Eurozone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

An awful lot of publicity for toblerone, it was on the news earlier ffs
