Hi guys, as the catchy title suggests I am looking to know which of the nobs pictured turns hot water down and rads up. Water is so hot we can't use it and rads are pitty full.

Argh can't attach pic on mobile. I will add tomorrow. Ta

Should be a thermostat on your cylinder unless your system is different to normal.

Nothing like that tbh. House was built in the 80s. The hot water is so hot you can't use it unless it's in a mixer tap.

I can't work it out from those pics. Even if there is a balancing valve on it, it will only slow down the rate of heating, not the eventually temperature. Without some extra plumbing work, the only control will be the boiler stat, but that will also reduce the temperatures of the rads.

Thanks for the reply. Any idea on a rough cost to get the work done to facilitate control of water / rads... is it a huge job or quick enough?

I don't know how much it would cost. There may be a grant for that sort of work. Some of the plumbers here might advise that better than I could.

firstly I hope there isnt any solid fuel on that circuit or you have problems,

from looking at the photos i would think as follows, but this could be wrong with out seeing the actual system

top valve appears to be on the cold feed/supply into the system (shouldnt really be fitted)

middle valve appears to be to shut off/reduce the flow to the cylinder. this valve is fitted on the supply to the cylinder below the vent pipe, it should not be fitted there

bottom valve appears to be to shut off/reduce flow to the rads

the valves should generally be fitted on the return not the flow pipes
