Relatively new to the game but have severe problems when I get within 50 yards of the pin. My pitching and touch around the greens is awful. Sometimes blading a chip through the green into a bunker or plopping it 2 feet in front of me. Anyone any practical advice on how to improve this side of my game?

Practice around the chipping green. Learn to use mid irons to chip and run. Soft hands and follow through. Get the feel for distances, this is crucial.

    It's really all about practice.

Try practice pitching with you highest lofted club, see how far it goes when you really hit it hard ( maximum distance).
Use the 'Clock Method ' to then modify your distance control. When you're standing at 6 O'clock bring your backswing to 2 & follow through to 10, then 3 & follow through to 9, then 4 & follow through to 8, then 5 & follow through to 7.
The follow through is most important, try and ensure that your hips follow through so that you end up with your body facing the flag.
Practice, Practice & more Practice ( but enjoy ).

If your blading and hitting it fat that means you have too much lower body movement. Concentrate on keeping all your weight on the foot nearest the target also open your stance this should eliminate the need to move the lower body.

Ignore everything u read and go get a lesson or 3 could be 1 or 10 things wrong.
Best time to get lesson's is when u are starting out, book them today.
Make sure the Pro has a grass area to teach u on chipping of mats tells you nothing.
