6 episodes? Wow. And to think I thought RTEs series on Shannon had way too much filler....

1 episode will focus on the shakedown desk and those that refuse to pay.

A tenner on the way out is a small price to pay to keep such an excellent facility open in the west. If people don't want to pay it then they're free to go to Dublin, pay generally higher fares, fuel to get up there, tolls and more for parking.

There's a story about the early days of Stansted Airport.

At one stage Stansted tower was phoning Heathrow over some procedural matter when a bell started ringing at the Stansted side.
    "What's that?" asked someone.
    "Their plane has arrived"

It's a bit late to take that option for a visitor heading home to the UK or elsewhere, when they find out about it for the first time, when leaving the country.

Should be included in the ticket price. That way you know about it transparently when you book your flight.

They don't sell the tickets so they can't add it to the price. They could try to charge Ryanair more to use the facility and then Ryanair like they do in other airports that try to charge them more pull all their flights and go somewhere else. It's a tenner, it's nothing really and it cracks me up when I see the amount of moaning people do about it.

Absolutely ,its only a tenner. ile give it a watch, 6 episodes , theres bound to be some gutter in there but hopefully some footage of the C-17s to. I use Knock all the time(Stansted flight), very handy from Castlebar, about 30/35 minutes.

Sure, it's not really the amount. You wouldn't notice it if the ticket cost an extra tenner. It's the fact that it's a shakedown of passengers, because they can't stand up to Ryanair. And sure, if local, you already know about it, so no big deal. I haven't used Knock in a long time, but I have seen foreign visitors get upset about it. As far as I'm aware it doesn't happen anywhere else in the US or Europe at least.

Getting upset over a tenner is sad.

    The amount isn't the issue.

They still do that shaking down for cash thing? Wow, how is that still legal? Would that come under some type of mis advertising rules - aka the fare isn't representative of the full cost. Ireland only REALLY needs one airport - if SNN can't make it work or they can't stand up to Ryanair, then bye bye.

Reality check. Knock has survived when a number of others in Ireland and other countries have not. Some may not like the way that they do it, but there are sufficient passengers that use the place that accept it for what it is, and pay the charge that the airport looks for. This thread is about the series that is about to be broadcast on UTV, it is NOT a thread to have a pop at Knock's management strategy, or Ryanair, or the relevance or otherwise of the survival of Knock.

Please stay on topic, if we don't, then we will have to take appropriate action

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

The first episode is online on the UTV player.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

It looks very similar in many ways to the tech rooms of some of europes busiest ATC centres

From the first episode it appears they've made a 'Dublin Airport: Life Stories' type programme with a dose of 'Mayo-ness' and Catholicism thrown in. Not my cup of tea, but as it's 'filler' in between 'Coronation Street' episodes I guess I'm not in their target demographic.biggrin.png

Ah, don't be slagging the 'nervous' centre, I'm sure most airports have a model aircraft storage room like that under the tower where you can go to dust off your model aircraft.

There actually is.... exactly that! I can tell you in London ATC centre, there are similar rooms, and indeed a similar collection (although larger) of aircraft models !!!

Ye, I've seen a few like that myself and have no bother with that, it was more the 'housekeeping' element that made me cringe. (As in the last thing you do in an electrical room like that is spread dust around like that, should be hoovered regularly.)
