ISIS - Could they be a threat to Ireland?

Given we're completely neutral and don't go to war, could ISIS be a threat to us or would you be worried about an attack?

I'm not worried about an attack on Irish soil in the slightest - We're small fish.

    Many reasons.

International airports linked to the USA.
    Soft western target.
Population of Muslims that some already have been radicalised.

I seem to remember an ISIS video that named Ireland as one of their enemies. However I don't think our neutrality is all that relevant. We're a western European, predominantly Christian country with strong cultural links to the US and the UK. I'm not worried about an attack but of course it's a possibility. Just look at some of the lone-wolf stuff that's been happening all over the world (which the ISIS media machine claim as their own). It's very hard to identify those individuals before they finally crack and the grim reality is that it could happen anywhere.

US planes in Shannon might be a bone of contention with them but to be honest IS threats should be the least of our worries.

Interesting proviso. Would our home grown lads let them operate here or take the law into their own hands if they heard of a threat ?

    Yes Ireland is a target.

But people should not be afraid to go outdoors or anything.

The head of FBI warned us few weeks ago. That should have got much more coverage then it did

I'm pretty sure that the Discovery Channel, or some other faux documentary network, had a show entitled IRA v Al Qaeda, complete with dramatised battles conducted in what looked like a car park.

Even the All Blacks aren't a threat to us anymore. Be grand.

Im sure we're well down the list, but theres so many of the bastards that you could not be surprised if and more so when it happens.
Of course many will say it is Shannons fault but been as we are not the right sect of their chosen religion we re damned anyway so I wouldnt sweat it.

Yeah, we won that. So hopefully they saw the same show and wont come here.

Neutral, what is neutral in today's world ??? For ISIS it's western or non western. I hate that word when discussing conflict in today's world. You would think it makes us invincible to all forms of attack.

It's a lazy attempt to not prepare.

    Bollox, we were never Neutral.

I don't think ISIS are going to be a threat to anyone they are getting destroyed in Mosul.

Will be interesting to see who takes Raqqa in the end.

Their dream of a Caliphate is falling apart now. So I think "Islamic State" will be on the scrapheap soon enough, so nothing to fear from them. But other Islamist oddballs will replace them and continue to be a threat, but it's unlikely we would be high on their list of enemies.

I think any threat is not so much ISIS themselves, so much as the lonely bedroom boys* wanting to have an importance/relevance/connection with someone or something #doingit4ISIS.

*It's cool. I'm in the kitchen.

    Radical Muslims?

Got to laugh at 'rational' factors being factored in to this kind of scenario. Like some radicalised nutbag here wouldn't try something.

    Totally, dude.

I dont know how anyone following the news in the ladt two years and iSIS could bring up neutrality, its fairly ****ing obvious that they are against the west/europe/Christians all of which ireland is part of, our only saving grace is a small muslim population with different demographics to other EU countries but it is for sure possible.

I remember reading an article recently about a small group of mainly American and Canadian mercenaries in Afghanistan who worked mostly for small towns and villages dealing with ISIS incursions, for a price of course.

These guys were legit dangerous guys who had gone straight out of the marines/army into this because they didn't know any other life and fighting was all they had. They usually absolutely annihilated the militants in most circumstances because of superior training, equipment and experience. One guy even detailed how he felt a tad sorry for the guys he killed because they were fueled by some weird twisted ideology but were pathetically outmatched in nearly every way.

While Mosul should signal the end of ISIS as a physical entity, it will not be the end of them, as an idea. "Ideas are bulletproof" (I'm watching V for Vendetta)

More particularly, to look at the question posed by the OP: Yes, we, like all of the western world, are at risk, however, I would have thought, we are not as high priority as other countries. A lone wolf style attack by someone wanting to make a name for themselves in the name of ISIS is always a possibility, but I would not be fearful to leave my house in case something happens.

It is spreading that fear, and making us perpetually afraid is the only win that they can get. By carrying on with our normal lives, they lose.

The moment Irish troops engaged and killed rebels in the Golan heights we became a proper target ,
Before we even get to Shannon
We're a target but nobody has anything to gain attacking us ,
Not as if we could project military power and get involved a conflict proper

Does Ireland have any natural resources that the USA give a flying fcuk about? If the answer if yes, then be afraid. If the answer is no, then you're grand.

Will be interesting to see where Europe is in 100 years time.

I'd agree with past posters that the Judeo-Christian culture is dying out.

Maybe Islam is the future. It is the literal word of God afterall, the last time the big man upstairs made contact with us was when the Angel Gabriel relayed God's words to the Prophet Mohammed.

This war is Borderless. Their war is a supremacist war, they will not give up until we are dead or convert.

And we are not neutral in this war. We are only neutral in NATO type wars against old Communist countries. I don't get where people think we are neutral in this debacle.
