How best to dispose of an old car.

Hi, I have a 2001 Seat I am no longer driving. Tax is about to run out but has NCT til March. It is driveable but it has a lot of issues.
I am considering scrapping it but my partner thinks we should try to sell it.
I don't think we would get more than €200 max but he thinks it is worth a try.
Does anyone know how this works? Selling a car in bad condition.
I was driving it daily up to a few weeks ago. The electrics are dodgy. Sometimes the windows and central locking don't work.
It is also sluggish to start in very wet weather but once on the road it drives fine.

Do I stick an ad in somewhere listing all the flaws? If someone buys it knowing the issues what are the comebacks if they change their mind?

I really don't have a clue so all advice gratefully received.

Absolutely nothing preventing you advertising the car privately. Guessing you or your partner do not work in the motor trade so it would be a case of buyer beware if selling privately. Having said that I think morally you should be honest about the car when selling and make note of its flaws and issues in so far as you are aware of them.

Without knowing the specific car on the face of it realistically you might be doing well to get €200 but worth a go anyway. Donedeal probably the best place to advertise it

If selling privately the best procedure is to get the buyer to write their details into the change of owner section on the VLC; envelope; stamp and post it of to Clare in each others company.

If it doesn't sell privately or you need the space etc it would be best to give one of the cash for cars type places a call (there are quite a few advertised in my local newspaper). The price they pay will probably depend on the condition of engine and box and the demand for them. Unlikely they would be paying as much as €200. If they are legit they should be providing you with an end of life certificate.

Yes you can stick it on a donedeal or similar and list all the faults. Be prepared for people offering swaps and €20. Most definitely get a 2nd SIM card and only use that for the sale. It'll be a lot of hassle for not much money, put up for 200 expect 150.

Put it up for €500 and prepare for the €200 offers
    advertise it locally too.

Advertise it for €350 but specify for parts or repair. Take what you can get for it then.

    Couple of important points

Motor tax, if you scrap you can reclaim an unexpired motor tax so factor that in when doing the maths

If you do sell privately make sure you complete the change of ownership form and post it to Shannon yourself straight away. Do not give this form to the new owner

There has to be a minimum of three months tax to claim it back, even a day less and you cant get it.

Scrap value has fallen considerably since then.

True, I just got rid of my banger a while ago on adverts. Quick sale for €100... (breakers offered me €30)The lads who naught it were just breaking it for parts for a relative...
If you have time on yer hands and can stash it then it'd be worth a punt.

I asked them to bring ID just before they signed the form and they didn't mind.
