My front passenger door had a dent in it so I bought a door from a scrap yard. I swapped all the bits into the new door , it closes but won't lock, I don't have the inside door card on yet because I'm waiting for a mirror. Does anyone know what the problem could be

What kind of car is yours? What kind of car was the donor?
    Is the lock just misaligned?

Are you using a remote fob to lock or the key?

Do you mean won't physically lock with the key or remotely via key fob? Also, does it have electric windows and do they work?

Does it lock from the inside at all?
Was there a locking mechanism in the door when you got it?

Won't lock from inside either - ya it did - there's no way the lock would be coded or something like that?

It could be the lock actuator (assuming these were on the golf).
It might look like #2 on this page (for my last motor):

I don't know if they have them to be honest

What exactly did you replace or do for your door repair ?

Did you replace the whole door ?
Can you hear the door mech activating ?

I bought a door from scrap yard came with just the door nothing in it so I swapped all the bits from the damaged door into the new door , no you can't hear it - I'm waiting to get an electric mirror so I didn't put on door card and there's to wires left to be plugged in ?

So you fitted the scrap yard door onto the car ? And you would have had to pull the wiring thru into the new door to connect up the electrics ? There is a connector strip that connects to the lock mech . Had you to disconnect all the electrics when taking off the old door ? ie had you to disconnect from electric windows when fishing out the loom when removing door ?

To or two ? wires to be plugged in ?
There will be a connector block that needs to go to the lock mech .the mech will be up near the door handle area
