Do I need proof that I've taken lessons at any point in this process?

I've booked my theory test, and I'm planning on getting lessons as well, but I heard somewhere that you need proof that you've taken lessons before getting your learner permit. Is this true? I don't need it before taking the theory test do I?

Everything you need to know is on google. You need ID to do the theory test, you need the theory test to get your learner permit, you need the learner permit to do your lessons, you need 12 lessons to do your full test and get your full licence.

Slightly mixed up. You need to do the 12 lessons to do the driving test.
I believe this is done on line by the person who does the lessons with you so no paperwork is required

There is paperwork. Your ADI (approved driving instructor) does upload your 12 lessons online, but as well as that, you have a learner logbook. Your instructor signs the relevant page of your logbook after each of the mandatory 12 lessons with comments on your progress. You have to sign them too and you're meant to write in your own reflections (though I don't know if anyone actually does that bit). You have to have the signed logbook with you on the day of your test as they may ask to see it.
