The last Leg, The most awful show ever...

Adan Hills says 10 words: canned laughter, Adam Hills says 12 words, canned laughter loads of clapping, pan to the audience, no one laughing, a smattering of the audience clapping. Is it funny? Is it offensive? Is it ok to be funny and possibly offensive if you have your prosthetic leg on your desk? I'm not sure what to make of the show but personally, I find it boring as sh1t.

I've only caught a few minutes here and there and it seems unfunny and uninteresting,

I think it is very funny and interesting and I've seen a good few shows at this stage.

Saw Adam Hills live twice, and thought he was excellent (this was about 5 or 6 years ago though).

I like it. Wouldn't be the biggest fan of the 'Adam Hills' rants' sections, but in general it's a laugh. And it was pretty groundbreaking in showing an irreverent sense of humour towards disabilities.

    Big Fan!

Absolutely fcuking awful. I think it has an audience because he's 'exotic'. He ain't funny.

That is it's saving grace but I just had to leave the room tonight: boring scripted dialogue followed by canned laughter. My daughter loves it but I'm afraid it's not for me.

It's a springboard for lesser known talent to cut their chops.

It's not Cats or Mock the Week, but its not bad either.

Watching the lesser known Jeremy Paxman sparring with Hills last week with the other two clowns trying to make it less embarrasing was bewildering.

The big bang theory has to be the worst excuse for a sitcom.

While we're at it, I hate Friends

The funniest part of it is when your man claps his hands, but I think it's alright on the whole. I actually think it's a major development in paralympic sports.

Whenever I see a "comedian" with a disability I'm waiting for disabled gag, they never fail. That guy with the dodgy arm and bad leg seems to do little else.
That Hills lad is so PC it's painful. Whole thing is a pile of shoite.

It's from the same genre of unfunny.

Cats was made watchable by the excellent Sean Lock, but apparently Aisling Bea is now on it and she is awful.

Mock the Week can have the odd Milton Jones effort that raises a smile.

I've a good mate a wheelchairhair user. Funny, funny fcuker. We're always telling him to try stand up.

That show is beyond bad. His whole schtick is missing his lower leg, which, while not ideal, is not really a massive disability in the scheme of things.

But that is what makes most comedians funny is that they put a humorous slant on things we can all relate too. Irish comedians are funny cos they take the piss out of being Irish, or single people are funny when they talk about their experience of being single, why can't disabled people do the same?

I love The Last Leg. One of the few shows on tv that talks openly about disability, as well as having lots of people with visible disabilities in the audience. Something you very rarely see on Irish TV. The only time you hear disability on RTE is in relation to disability 'services', charity, cutbacks and abuse scandals. They usually wheel out some disabled kid for The Late Late Toy show for everyone to fawn over. It's such a patronising view of disabled people. The Last Leg, alongside their involvement with Scope's 'End the akward camapign' has changed the discourse surrounding disability in Uk.

At it's best, it can sometimes be funny and entertaining when they have good guests on it.
At it's worst, its unfunny, but at least its honorably intended and gives disability a voice and keeps people with disabilities in public view when the Para-olympics are out. I'm not a fan of host. Largely (if truth be told) because I find his voice irritating as crabs-Unfair but sure.

At it's worst its easily avoidable and still better than anything thats ever been shown on TV3 ever, and I'm glad it exists even if I'm not going to seek it out.

I find it one of the funnier British shows, anecdotes and self deprecating humour is closer to my tastes than the self congratulatory smugness of the likes of mock the week.

Just watched a few clips. Adam Hills seems to lecture a lot and the people on the couch make inane contributions and laugh heartily at his
    humourless observations. Pretty shít.

Since Channel 4 is only funded only by Ads someone must like it's long running programs.

Channel 4 is the one channel you can't complain about if a program doesn't fit into your lowest common denominator , something for everyone world view because their remit is to provide minority interest programs. It's actually a legal requirement set by Parliament.

Complaining about a program you don't like on C4 is like complaining about TG4 showing something in Irish. There's plenty of other generic channels showing generic programs for generic audiences.

So guess where you can stick your "right to be offended" ?

And don't forget the poor cratur in the wheelchair who'll be wheeled out for Dermot Bannon or Francis Brennan or some other darling to work a miracle for, regardless of whether they want it or not, and with very little discussion about what they really want for themselves.

    Agree fully with your view on the Last Leg - fairly groundbreaking. Stuff like this probably wouldn't have happened without them;

I'm not a huge fan of the "I have the right opinion, you have the wrong opinion" type of comedy it does a lot of the time. Fair play to them for not being reluctant to talk about disabilities but I could do with less of the preachy stuff.

Same reason I never liked the Daily Show or John Oliver.

The red button on your remote should switch the TV off.

Where did I say I was offended?
I said that it was boring. I think I nave a right to express an opinion on a program, regardless of the channel on which it is shown.

I used to enjoy it but it quickly became very stale. The presenters literally go through the same comments every week and Adam Hills' weekly rants are grating. He also has that punchable Aussie thing perfected.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 405 ✭✭HS3

It used to be funny. Now its just a soap box for Adam Hills. His quick 'so here's the thing' breakdown of current affairs are very one sided and not 'the thing ' at all. The laugh on the little hobbit fella is very annoying.

It is pretty basic left wing propaganda for Adam Hills. Alternative views hardly expressed at all.

Quite how Josh Widdecombe & the ubiquitous Romesh Ranganathan get so much work is beyond me.

Must be some stellar agents out there.

Yes you have the right to express an opinion. And yes you did use the offence word , twice

Like I said Channel 4 is the one channel that is mandated by Parliament to produce stuff that most people DON'T like. So if you don't like a program on C4 it just means they are doing their job.

So true. Widdecombe has that annoying/weird trait of not being able to look at people when talking, he'll often talk while looking at the ceiling, I'd noticed it before when he'd appear on the Apollo shows and the likes.

Yes I did use the word offence twice. Did I sat that I was offended? No. Did I say that i had the "right to be offended"? No. I posed questions. Check out the '?' at the end of the sentences.
It's a great mandate to have. Crap program? Well done lads, great job, keep up the good work.
