Hi just wondering if anyone can help. Bought a house 6weeks ago and the heating system is Stanley solid fuel range. We have been using turf as fuel. Our problem is the radiators are only getting warm, not hot. The hot water can be uncomfortably hot. The temp gauge on the front of the range only ever gets to about 150c. Is there anyway of getting the rads hotter and the hot water a bit cooler. I have no experience with heating or plumbing. And have never had a solid fuel heating system. Thanks in advance.

How many rads do you have?

The problem is simple you won't heat anything with turf, buy a bag of smokeless ovoides get a fire going and then fill the stove half way up with fuel and see how it goes.

There may be other issues but at least burn something that will actually give enough heat to heat the rads before going looking for them.

The Range gives preference to the hot water tank. When it reaches the temp on the thermostat, this then switches on the pump to the radiators.
This is the most likely scenario.
This thermostat will be attached usually to the hot water pipe going to the tank.
If the dial is too high, you can turn it down to bring on the rads sooner.
Other poster is right, turf wont heat much. Coal and timber for heat.
