Coming from the south as the pic shows...
Single lane road, at entrance to the roundabout it splits in two. Left and right lane. What lane should you be in if taking exit 3 (which is also a single lane exit) roundabout has two lanes all the way around...

    Thanks :D

Right lane and then move to left lane by indicating after you pass exit two

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,302 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

    Right lane

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,673 ✭✭✭mahamageehad

Inside lane unless the markings on the roundabout indicate differently.
I don't see how you could even argue 1st lane here!

I'm going to say right lane on this. Especially if I wasn't sure, as I'd go around again and exit safely if I was wrong :D

And coming from the same direction and taking exit two...inside or outside lane?

Can you tell me why you all know this but every time I'm on the roundabout I get cut off/honked at/fingers stuck up at me... I thought I was going mad...but it turns out the people of Limerick don't know how a roundabout works.

Same here in waterford... especially the waterford new ross road.. couple of roundabouts on it

    Fixed that for you.

What I see a lot lately is people picking the outside lane no matter what exit they're taking... And its my fault when I point it out via a large number of beeps.

I've always gone by if the turning is past 12 o'clock then you should be in the right lane. If it was at 11 o clock the left line is OK. Your one is past 12 so right lane is correct. I'm almost sure this is in the rules of the road - does anyone know?

I've been on this roundabout heading for both of those roundabouts. The only answer to the exit 3 question is POWERRRRR. Launch it and be at exit 3 before the eejit next to you even knows it.

Cos people are generally stuck on stupid mode while driving! I actually was giving out to my mum about this before and she said people her age were never taught to use roundabouts as there was none when she did her test! So theres that... but my gut says its the stupidity :-)

Why change lane? You're not supposed to change lanes in the roundabouts, just take the exit with due care.

Try any of the two roundabouts near the cement factory end of dock road.

The other huge one right now is "racing line all the time everywhere"-
left lane coming from southcourt hotel.
Indicate right. (Wat? Why not go in the right hand lane so???)
Enter roundabout in outside line, move to inner lane (yeaaaaa you're fvcking Schumacher yaaaaaaa) still indicating right..... (okay, you were a little confused at the start but this kinda makestuff sense now)
then exit the "straight ahead exit" for the tunnel. (We're back to .... wat?)

But sure every roundabout in limerick is a special case, I dunno is there one "standard rsa rotr" roundabout in the whole place.

I don't know this roundabout in particular, but say you can't actually see exit three when you are entering the roundabout, but the sign shows it at the 12 o clock position, do you go by the sign and use the left Lane if no other markings?

Inside lane is left outside lane is right normally
I don't think we should change how we name them on a roundabout

Plenty of roundabouts where you have to change lanes to exit.

The Wilton roundabout was one in cork was a nightmare when I worked down that way.

What melts my head is all the roundabouts that they put a left arrow on the left lane so that you need to use the right lane to go straight, going completely against the rules of the road....

There is one by Roscommon mart like that. Had a friend of my employer who told him he saw me go through 3 out of 4 roundabouts in Roscommon the wrong way when he was driving behind work van and it was said to me, poor eejit probably took the markings on that odd roundabout near mart as to the proper way to approach all roundabouts :p

Why to people mention inside/outside lanes when it's nearside/offside?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

    The Griswolds:

I use this roundabout all the time and it's a joke. The correct answer is not which lane you are in but rather how quickly you can get onto the roundabout quicker than the guy in the lane next to you. :D

Rumour has it they are planning to readjust that roundabout especially with the Blood Mill road exit.

The ROTR say use the left lane unless marked otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 conacks

Yes the ROTR does say use left unless marked otherwise but golden rule is left lane to go straight ahead. The point is if your approaching a busy roundabout and are going straight you will automatically go to left lane and by the time you see a left arrow you are in the wrong lane. Why make road marking that go against the golden rule in the first place...?
