GEDCOM & Photos

I recently got an Ancestry DNA test, and thought I would export my tree from MyHeritage to Ancestry so I can do matches with any people whose trees are only on the site. My plan was to keep using MyHeritage as my primary site and export to Ancestry occasionally so the trees are in sync.

However, turns out that when I export to GEDCOM from MyHeritage, and even turning the "Export personal photos" and "Export family tree photo album" options on, no images are actually exported (such as images of marriage certs and birth certs added to facts). Even if I import the GEDCOM back into MyHeritage, the images are now gone. Also tried it with Ancestry, with some result.

Is there any way around this issue, or should I simply not use images in my tree? If so, how do people normally reference documentation images?

    P.

I don't think gedcoms take images across, it's just text.

GEDCOMs are text only files so unfortunately it won't bring across media items. You would need to import the media manually and then upload them to your tree on Ancestry.
