Never ever drink and drive even if it is a single drink

    Hello,
I dont want to be a moral judge or something but would like to share information ( I did not find many details ) about the peril of drinking and driving.
I will not talk about extreme cases or accidents but a simple aspects.
I was stopped for a test and I had a beer about 1.5 hours ago driving. Since I had alcohol in my breath, I was taken to the garda station. The whole ordeal is not worth it. My wife had to take a taxi home and car was left behind near the road. The nearest garda station where the test could be taken was 40 mins away and I had to travel at the back of the Garda Van ( which is not a pleasant experience at all )
Luckily in my case the tests were under the limit but it took good 2 odd hours for this to happen from start to finish. I have no previous experience visiting the station and it was something to be avoided.
One thing that I learnt was that even if you have a drink and you are stopped at the check-post, the roadside machine only tells that you have alcohol in your system. It does not state if you are over or under. For that you have to go to a garda station and your car partner cannot accompany you.
This happened about 4 weeks ago to me and I am happy to spread this message and sticking only to non alcoholic options ( healthier also :) ).
I know it can be a pain sometimes to take a taxi specially when you have to go far and when there is a dearth of public transport, but make smart choices and avoid this whole episode.
There are also separate limits for different license types so please bear that in mind.
    Cheers.

    Two questions -
What breath reading did you come back at?
Are you a novice or learning driver?
