I heard yesterday that it will be a couple of bucket and spade routes. PMI was one of the ones mentioned.

If I were LH I'd be very very worried watching FR snoop about FRA. Just look at Flightradar24 and narrow it down to FR planes only. The amount of FR planes flying around Europe at any one given time is plain scary in relation to their vast numbers. IMO FR turning up in FRA is a massive statement of intent. They are now mixing it with the big guns in their own back yards. Me thinks they'll do the bucket and spade runs first then start nibbling at the bread and butter runs of LH etc next.

I'm still struggling to see how big Ryanair could become in Frankfurt airport which is already squeezed for runway capacity as it is.

When there was talk of them coming to Munich, it was limited to using slots in the slacker times of the day after the initial morning outbound rush or (I think) late afternoon when theres a load of connections.
You'd think Frankfurt would have similar restrictions.

To me it seems more like a signal of intent than anything and hoovering up the custom in Nord Rhine Westfalia (Cologne/ Dusseldorf) with a population of nearly 20 million would be a more straight forward thing to do.

the latest update to the article mentions the 2 destinations as Mallorca and Alicante .
Its also mentioned that the slots at the airport are not decided by the airport but rather centrally at the german airport authority, and the ones that Ryanair would get arent yet decided. Apparently the airport had expected a lot of growth in the past few years which has not materialised so the airport was actively approaching budget airlines to start routes. Ryanair will be getting heavy discounts as they are a new airline into the airport and they are seemingly opting to not use "airport services" like parking at the terminal and using an airbridge.

Ryanair is also not planning a complete withdrawal from Hahn as it will still be needed for its expansion plans (although with expansions in Luxembourg and Cologne you'd wonder what the plan actually is)
