We've a 2008 UK import from new. No issues. Bit flimsy generally compared to the old Hilux but no surface rust.

I heard a bunch of those around 06 are actually grey imports from Thailand or some such, and that they have far less protection than those destined for Northern hemisphere. .....

Thanks for the replies so far everyone, no it's not a Vigo.. The dealer that sold it to us 6 months ago had it all concealed with new sealer so in a dispute at minute with him..

Yes, this was a thing on some of them when they were 1/2 years old. Irish/uk spec ones.
Not structural at that stage though but bad surface rust.

This is an original Irish jeep but definetly structural, one cross member completely eaten through but immaculate body and mechanically perfect, which leads me to think it is a manufacturing defect..

Was it farmed before you purchased? I know of a 2008 landcruiser that was only two years old when traded in 2010 that was rotten/structurally underneath.
Knew the owner and he said he was using it for feeding stock in ground that had a lot of nitrogen put out. Body was immaculate as well.

I'd be trying to get my monies back on that deal fella. Surface rust is one thing and most 4x4s have it underneath for some reason, but structural a no no. Maybe get an engineers report and hire a solicitor

Have an engineers report already done, the dealer wants to 'fix' it for me problem I have is how can I trust him to do that when he sold it this way..

Up to you but I'd be trying to get rid of it tbh, I'd never be happy with it. One thing I hate is rust. I'd rather have mechanical failure ie; engine or g-box. Rust is a nightmare to get ahead of. Them hilux are on a chassis rail and it'll only be patched where necessary to pass a few tests.
