Lads we all know the day thats in it

Farming 400 acres, great cover and game inc deer on it and was approached by a lad offering me a €1,000 cash to shoot on my farm. he wants to bring French and Italians around; great interest in woodcock.

Venison making €3/kg from dealers so wonder if us farmers are missing out not charging gun clubs etc for shooting on our land.

Not going for the €1000 but almost tempted.

It's a big earner for some farms, I'd be adding a 0, almost. For your quote though.
Muppets will pay 20 per bird on a 200-300 day shoot for normally 10 guns on the big commercial shoots never mind stalking deer etc.

You certainly are. Not sure about all of us. Waffle might have done idea of rates for shooting. €1000 doesn't sound like a lot though.

The in laws own a B&B in Yorkshire They got a few in recently for the local estate. It's 10 grand a gun for a days shooting. You would be suprised what people will pay. But they take it very serious you have to wear the right outfits and have land rovers to get out to the shoot and provide top notch food. When your paying they expect the best and if no Deer were to show up that day you would have a pissed lad looking for his cash back.

Get references for the lad off other landowners where he shoots. They will probably only shoot the land 4 or 5 times in the season. Is he French?

In this game it's all about the location, land layout for hills and covers to get height in the birds and cover for deer not to make it a turkey shoot. And also a large land block is needed which suits on arable land as it's clear most the year vs impossible to deal with stock regards stress on animals et. Etc.
It depends on if your guy wants to do a bit rough shooting once a month barnaman vs commercial managed weekly type setup and if he can get a few of your neighbours in also. Need to the right setup regards feeding people and dressing etc.
Had about 10000 birds put down here at one time when he needed 12000+ and fed for about 5000 so loved to graze crops all winter. Now just have a few local guys who bring friends along to manage carrion(to help a good few breeding barnowls)pidgeons and one guy does commercial stalking for Chinese water/fallow/muntjack deer to control numbers. Upland moors/ bogs will have big money deer and grouse etc.
Previous regieme had a shoot here but it's not some thing wantes to maintain.

We had a shoot in UK for a time, on our own farm but with a large neighbouring block of wood.

Very rough/ semi driven pheasants. We put down a couple of thousand birds a year and iirc they were costing about 30 quid a brace when we shot them, fairly small days rarely over 100 bag.

Syndicate of 10 shared the costs and the work with a part time keeper.
