I'm stealing from colleagues, family and shops. Cash and goods. I have a job. No real bad debts. I am addicted. I have a wife and two young kids. I'm getting help but I need to hear the truth. Face the consequences. If I go to court I lose my job. Everything.
I have a history of psychiatric problems. I'm not just a thief but I suppose every crook says that.

What sort of help are you getting? Have you mentioned it to your therapist? That's where you should be turning for help in this.

Perhaps listening to this podcast will help. A few months ago the agony aunt on Anton Savage's show dealt with a problem like yours. http://www.todayfm.com/mobile/index.php?id=30618

You are not a crook. kleptomania is usually linked to other psychiatric issues. As poster above says, chat to your therapist. Consequences are not a sufficient deterrent. There are deeper psychological issues that are driving this behaviour. Some good information online to access prior to your appointment.

If you are suffering from kleptomania, your company has a duty of care towards you.
