Dunnes Loyalty Cards

It seems as if literally everyone has a loyalty card! and that no one protests to the idea! Azda in England claim that they reward the customer with the money that would otherwise be spent on a loyalty scheme. Personally, I'd feel like a fool collecting 1 cent on every euro. One time I presented myself at the till and said "no rewards card". It was for something of about €2, and the response was something like "oh, if you forgot it you can go over to customer service, and they'll add up the points". Seriously?

However, with the current vouchers they offer, it's basically as if the value is so good that, the customers are forced into getting their loyalty. Dunnes give vouchers that give €10 off every transaction over €50 (€20 for >€100, etc). In other words, it's not that loyalty customers are getting good value, but that the non loyal customers are getting poor value.

Now of course, up to 20% off, is actually good value, so I wouldn't look down upon those who use it. It results in a lot of people running back at the last moment (during the transaction) to buy some of the more visable offers... chocolate and crisps. Some customers will even give back €5 or so worth of stuff at the till, with the intention of purchasing it having a different voucher next time. But I have say, that if the national average IQ were to increase, I'm sure Dunnes would have to change the value of these vouchers!! if you know what I mean!

I think it's all bloody ridiculous. There's something undignified about having a loyalty card on your car keys. I couldn't exactly picture James Bond carrying one!

I'd rather see a loyalty card than a BMW/AUDI logo on a keyring ..classier imo.

James Bond tends to travel a lot and dine out mostly. Probably never
grocery shopped in his life. Only loyalty is to queen and country. He
probably orders a lot of supplements and protein powders online to help
him maintain his fighting condition. May utilise discount codes or coupons.

I don't have a Dunnes loyalty card, but the other day I spent $49 and the kind woman behind the check out said if I spent $1 more I could get €10 off if I spend €50 the next time and show the receipt.
So I spent an extra €1 for the €10 voucher and no need for a loyalty card.

So you don't want one for whatever reason..
But you don't get the benefits..
    So you want the benefits..
    But not the card.

I dunno OP, I respect your desire for privacy but who cares if you only buy bananas with lots of lube. It's not as if alarm bells ring in head office with some carry-on guy going 'ou matron'.

    Why the fear?

So OP, a fictional, upper class, English twat is the reason you won't use a loyalty card. ?????

I'd go as far as to say it's not the people using said loyalty cards that need their IQ checked ........ Jebus wept .

The IQ remark was directed towards the vouchers.

But, but, but vouchers don't have an IQ, or is this more gender fluidity IMHO cr@p :confused::confused::confused:

Being furious about optional supermarket loyalty cards and vouchers.

    The bar just keeping rising.

The 10 off when you spend 50 has nothing whatsoever to do with the loyalty cards. Whose IQ needs examining now?

It's a great exercise in mental arithmetic.

I'M SAYIN THAT if the IQ of the shopper was higher, they'd be able to beat the marketing strategy.... as made clear in the OP.

And I'm saying your whole premise is wrong as the money off has nothing to do with their loyalty card in the first place.

I try and avoid places that offer loyalty cards etc., don't like having to jump through hoops for value.

I've noticed in particular that the super value staff are totally put out when I say I don't have a loyalty card, you'd think they on commission or something ! Have a Tesco card and all I've recieved are vouchers for things I don't even purchase.

I've got a Dunnes loyalty card and a Tesco loyalty card. Always use them when I'm shopping. The money off vouchers they send every few months are always welcome. Who's going to turn down a voucher for €25 cash. Look after the penny's and the pounds will look after themselves.

We used Tesco clubcard vouchers to pay for our ferry to / from the UK this summer. Also used some to pay for one of the kids schoolbooks. So having one definitely saved us a lot of money this year.

It's no big deal. Hand them the card when paying and every few months get 20 or 30 euro back. Costs me nothing and gains me money. The Dunnes money off vouchers are useless though as we never buy any of the products

EDIT: Sorry to the poster Srameen who I said was a ****** ******* . I don't know them.

I never said it was anything to do with privacy.

And why is it that a comment like that, likely wouldn't have been made 20 years ago? Is it all the porn we're exposed to?

I have an O'Briens Off license Loyalty Card, when you get that tenner off you're booze it doesn't seem so bloody ridiculous.

The local Eurospar would let you use your points to pay for part of your purchase. They stopped though, it's not going to work out if people are buying low profit items.

So don't use it then, I really don't understand what the problem is?

I have loyalty cards but I often forget them or just ignore the vouchers they send out.

    Ok fair enough. :
    1. You're not too pushed about having 1c refunded out of every €1
That's grand if you have a low cost of a weekly shop.. or you don't shop in the same place all the time etc. But those who do spend about €100 a week are on for a refund of €52 in the year. It's not a whole pile of beans but it's still a saving (factoring in the oppertunity cost of not shopping elsewhere for cheaper etc!).

    2. James bond something something...
Would James Bond himself even be on AH (I know there's a Simon Templar though!)

Well I suppose AH wasn't around 20 Years ago... but when it did start there was lashings of it..

    I could go on.

But alas it's all very serious now..... and people are being rubbed up the wrong way. Yikes!

Noticed that yesterday. Cashier then asked if I wanted to sign up for one, and I told her "I'll pretend I didn't hear that"!

My local Dunnes never does currency conversion on the fly like that.
