Hi, all I would prefer straight and honest information, please.

Also, this is Ireland id like Irish opinions please as building codes can differ.

I wonder if you would help me with a query.

I was walking past this building yesterday and with no experience in the building trade, i couldn't help be think there were some unsure work practices going on here.

Would I be right that removing the supports (seen on the right) before removing the roof was incorrect?

I'd love to know your professional say on this purely from a builders point of view

Yes. Not only a danger to the workers but also a danger to the public passing by.
I would immediately send the photo with the address and your details to wcu@hsa.ie and contact your local dangerous building section and building control section of the council.

Kinda looks like a death trap to me. Its not even adequately fenced off from the public.

    unbelieveable
is it an actual building site or did someone crash in to it and a temp clean up was attempted
is there any site notices around
the only hope of safety there is that the purlin in the roof if any is there at all, is low enough down to take the weight of the roof to prevent a collapse of the roof structure
a good one for guess the village thread

could it be one of those cases where the owner of the building couldn't get planning to demolish or couldn't be arsed getting planning to demolish and then claims the building collapsed over the bank holiday weekend when the authorities are off until Tuesday. Or maybe it did collapse and the owner did a temp clean up

I think someone has painted a few balloons on the wall...clearly, that is what is keeping the building up - it's ingenious.

It's on a busy street in a large town, less than 100m from the county council offices.

To give them the benefit of the doubt - perhaps there's a temporary eaves beam up there which can't be seen...

If not, then the roof support, along with other visible safety issues (hoarding/cantilevered masonry at high level/pedestrian management) don't look right!

Off topic but is the upstairs room of the building in question sharing the chimney of the neighbouring property (looks a bit like a fireplace)?

Not any more it would seem o7j1av.jpg

Update from Jennifer Murnane O'Connor on Murrays Sweet Shop on Dublin street. I've spoken to the council this morning the building was demolished without planning permission and is now in the hands of the legal department

scaffold is a sight to behold
I'd say the only ticket the scaffolder ever held was a bus ticket

at least they're having a go at sealing up the neighbours property with render

Hope so, it's now a legal requirement to carry out an asbestos survey on any property dating from before 2000 that is undergoing substantial refurbishment under the H&S Act

ROFL the developer picked the wrong neighbors if he thought he was going to get away with that.
Elaine Morgan, a barrister and co-owner of an adjoining property at 26 Dublin Street, claims the demolition was not authorised and the gable wall of her property is now exposed. She has secured interim orders effectively freezing the scene and restraining further works there.

in this day and age how the developer thought they would get away with that is unbelievable
I wonder will it still get to be used as a car park if it's a drawn out case or in these cases is there a time limit on a completion date to reinstate the property

Anyone remember Archers garage beside EWL on Fenian St in Dublin?
It was demolished over a Bank Holiday weekend in 1999.
It was a protected building and had to be reinstated.

Ihgllc I'm sure Mrs. Morgan who owns the property next door and the council would both be very interested in both your photographs if you felt like going out of your way to share with them. Just a thought.
