Microwave ~ Internal Sizes ....?

My microwave takes my 11" dinner plate. It's also rotten as a pear and probably an absolute health risk. It needs replacing.

But, all the ones I see on line are presented as " X x Litres "

What 'size' should I be looking for, please?

    Thanks.

Argos gives turntable sizes but doesn't take into account that the plate might be bigger than that and still fit. Worth getting a bigger one if it will fit in your kitchen.
The bigger volume ones don't always have bigger turntables but a 27litre model will generally have a turntable nicely bigger than your plate. You might find 23 or 25 litre models that do the job too.
11 inches is approx 28cm so even a 27cm turntable would probably take your plate.

Thanks, Colm. I have a place here that does everything from tea warmers to industrial sized. I guess, now it's narrowed down, I can focus on that range and try to assess exactly which one will be right thgrinning-smiley-003.gif

If you get to see them in the flesh, maybe avoid the ones with over complicated controls. I got a de longhi one that is a right pain to do basic stuff with. the simplicity of the old fashioned ones is missed!

What does a Potato button even do?

Don't you just turn the knob to the to the correct time and then press it to start? What could be easier?

I'm guessing that if you just press the knob it starts for 30 seconds (and an extra 30 for each time you press it).

EDIT: Just noticed there's a separate start/30sec button. Still super simple IMO, you can just ignore the pre-sets.

Personally, Niall; I'm of the view that that's all just extra, unasked for sh1t to go wrong.

I like to turn a knob. Then wait for it to go 'Ding!'. Don't take a Mother Board to do that ;)

Anyway; I'm waiting for a massive dealership to get back to me about which, of their hundreds of models, will take my eleven inch plate. State of the thing I'm limping along on is scary! I sort of turn it on and run away!

That's nice and simple but there's always a bit of guess-work about exactly how long you put it on for.
I also find those egg-timer dials don't stand the test of time so well.

You can do the 30 second thing fair enough,

To turn it on with the knob, you need to turn it anti clockwise, but not too far, then clockwise.

Setting it to defrost is pure guesswork and I've read the manual.

I'm a gadget nerd and the furthest thing from a technophobe you can get, but this and many new microwaves are just badly designed.

There are some good ones out there, point still stands - if you can have a go before buying then do.

The tech specs on the manufacturer's website will give the internal (cavity) dimensions for each model.

This Samsung model will do the biz, it's more than 12" wide and deep inside (13 " x 12.75") so an 11" plate will rotate with no bother, I bought one in Power City a few months ago and it's great little model. Externally it looks smaller than the big old 1989 vintage Panasonic machine it replaced but has the same internal space, probably because the components are smaller these days.

There are obviously bigger capacity machines out there, if I was you I'd get the measuring tape and go to Power City/DID/Currys/Harvey Norman and check out the models on display. That Samsung model is 23 litres so best go that or higher.
