    Hi

I've been looking at some of these Picasso cars. I want a 7 seater or at the very least 3 full seats in the back.

The 1.6 versions seem to be the most common but a 1.6 diesel would be very weak and I don't think the overtaking ability would be too great.
I see a lot of reviews about poor handling and the poor performance of the gear box with lots of other parts needing to be changed.

Tax seems to vary with these from €280 to €390 and upto 500 plus.

So I am a bit stuck. I have also looked at the SMax and I'd imagine they are more reliable but very few of them are available whereas there seems to be tonnes of 2nd hand picassos being sold.

I looked at the Honda FRV but don't like its size and tax is very high.

Ideally I would like to fit a roofbox and tow hitch to the car.

    Thanks

Keep well clear of them one of my inlaws had the misfortune to trade a perfect 07 corolla for one and had endless troublen from it. I also owned a citreon xsara diesel and had plenty trouble from it parked up at 116k miles. In the end they had to trade it in at a huge loss. Stick with a more realiable car.

Is there much difference in reliability between the petrol and diesel models?

I see the petrol ones are going cheaper but the car tax is pretty crazy at over €600.

Also would a diesel model be ok if the car wasn't doing a huge amount of mileage.

Few spins to shops weekly and motorway use every month or so?

    Thanks

The 2.0 HDI is a proven motor. It is a very good, reliable and powerful engine. Sold by Ford as 2.0 TDCI as well.

Just make sure you get one with a proper hydraulic automatic (with the PRND modes) - in the newest generation they are sold as EAT6. Don't get close to ETG6 or EGS6 gearboxes (with RNAM modes). Horrible does not describe it...

Just after trading in Picasso 7 seater 1.6diesel auto
Never had any trouble with it put.on a 100k in 3years . Only thing the auto box is a little rough in changing gears . Had better automatic gearboxes.
Remember change oil and filter every 10_12k not 20k recommended and use the right oil.
This is the caveat when you are buying a second hand Picasso service history is correct and mileage guaranteed.

I agree previous post 2lt model with hydraulic auto box is better buy

Are the 1.6 diesel powerful enough for overtaking. It is a bit of a concern that you would be stuck behind slow moving traffic.

I guess it was EGT6 or EGS6 gearbox... They can be rough... Just to confirm, what modes the gearbox have?

I have 1.6 from new with EAT6 gearbox - it is smooth, surprisingly responsive and very frugal on diesel. 2.0l would be faster, but I never intended of taking it to the mountains ;)

That's the issue with majority of modern cars, especially diesels. They don't tolerate service negligence.

The current 1.6 has 120HP, should be fine for overtaking.
