My case has been given to the Social Welfare inspectors...

I applied for Disability allowance in June this year. Six weeks ago I called to the Disability section in Longford and they said "My case has been given to the Social Welfare Inspectors".

I called again last week and they said it was still with "The Inspectors".

    Does this mean...

    (a) I am suspected of fraud?
    (b) They need to visit me to check me out?
    (c) No inspectors are coming but they like to keep me on edge while they decide if I should be awarded the benefit?
    (d) The inspectors are in no hurry, because I am not an urgent case?

And why did they tell me an inspector will likely call on me? Isn't the whole point of inspections to make a surprise visit?

Should I be happy that the case is now with the inspectors because it means I have cleared other hurdles along the way to get this far?

How long do they usually take to call in anyone's experience?

If anyone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate. Thanks.

Yes. The inspector will likely just call upon you at day and time unknown to you to check you're not working mainly.

    Thanks Edups.

I see from other posts that you are on DA

How long did the whole process take for you? Did you need to appeal?

I couldn't tell you! I've had it for 5 years, my nanny did the application for me, because I was 16 at the time. As far as appeals go, no I didn't. But it was iirc about 7 months altogether. But there was an inspector assigned but never went further than that

    iirc ?

You mean you got an inspector assigned but you got DA without him/her calling to see you...?

Remember it may be different been you were a minor at the time and all contact would have been with your guardian

Yes but no inspector came to my house, I'd have noticed a stranger in me house :p

Op it's likely you could be looking at several more months before you get a decision, it's seems most first time applications get a refusal all you can really do now is wait for further contact from the department,
Having been through the process you can expect a visit at some point

Around 50% of applications are refused first time around. So don't give up if you are refused - be sure to appeal it within 21 days - if you can, go to your local Citizens Information office for assistance with your appeal.

Yes, seems to be the case. I was refused 2 years ago and didn't appeal, which was a bad decision on my part. It won't happen this time, I will appeal this time.

Seems ridiculous that they need to refuse people who have been through medical and means testing and are shown to have qualified for the allowance both by doctors and welfare inspectors.

It's become incredibly hard to get disability allowance these days.
