Cattle to the factory

    Hello all,
was hoping I could get a few pointers from some of ye in relation to getting prices/quotes from the factory (would be bringing cattle to factory myself - no agent).

I'm used of going to the mart but this year am going to try the factory for a change with about 7 bullocks & heifers in total but I havent deal with a factory in a long time.

They are Charolais/limo crosses & I am in bord bia scheme as well and all are under the 30 month age.

When you ring them up do they give you a base price?

What way are prices going for the factory at the minute?

    Any info appreciated.

I would contact an agent. Ring Factory and get the name of an agent in your area. He will quote a base price. Of under 30 months and grading O= or better and fat score 2+ to 4+ you get the QA. The base price is on R-/R= cattle and it varies then depending on fat score and grade.

Your cattle should Grade R depending on finish. When you say they are CH and LM crosses are they Suckler or dairy bred. If Suckler bred they usually grade R+ or better. Processors are quoting 3.60/3.65/kg as far as I know

Thanks Bass for the info on that. They are suckler bred. Do all factories have agents or is it just the big operators

    3.65 far cry from 4 euro :(
