I knocked a flower vase with water all over my cisco epc2425 modem, Now knackered. My friend has a spare one from an old contract. I know I can get a replacement from them in a few days. My Q is would the other modem work or do Virgin (disable) them down the cable when you end your contract ? I know they can disable your tv box/card but the modem ? Just wondering, Thanks

    It won't work
The Mac address of the modem is tied to your account

It will only work if Virgin Media are willing to register your friends mac address of his modem to your account

His epc2425 modem would have been disabled when he upgraded to a different UPC/Virgin Media modem/router or closed his account

They will more than likely provide you with a newer router/modem as epc2425 modem is no longer provided

If you want modem mode ask for the Virgin 3 Hub (VirginMedia@360M - Compal Modem / Hub 3.0) and make sure you have Ip4 Address on your account for modem mode to work

I am not being smart but he brought over the modem,I plugged it in and it works ?. He had cancelled his contract a year ago and they never picked up the modem. I will order a newer one from Virgin on Tuesday, Why would it still work ? We are on different sides of Dublin so it is not looking at mac addresses. I am delighted I will not be without broadband for a few days anyway.

Strange that it's working as they do use the mac address of the modem and usually do send a signal to modem when modem changed or account closed.
He must have not had it connected to the cable for the signal to be received.
