May be a stupid question but how is it made?

I was always so used to instant coffee, lash in a spoonful of coffee and hot water, nothing to it.

But i got coffee grounds which smells and tastes heavenly (even when not made up properly).

The first time, I lashed in a spoonful of coffee and hot water like you would with instant coffee. After drinking it, it's not how you do it, there was the coffee grounds sitting at the bottom.

So i got a french press and youtubed how to use it. It works, problem is, i think I bought too big a french prees, a 1 litre one, the plunger doesn't go all the way down, but I only want 1 mug of coffee. So do i need to get a smaller french press?

Maybe try a smaller french press or if you are only making coffee for yourself then an Aeropress would be perfect.

Or a one-cup filter? Hario V-60 or something like that.

An Aeropress is a great way of making coffee for one person/cup. Easy to clean up afterwards and tastes great. All you need is a kettle. Avaliable from Amazon, or often decent coffee shops, for around €28.

There is nothing wrong with this method either.

you just let the coffee settle at the bottom, and drink away, remembering not to drink all the way to the bottom.

I've seen many people drink coffee like this, particularly in Lithuania where I lived for a time.

Buy the around €65 Espresso maker Lidl sell occasionally. I think my local one may still have some from the last batch.

Buy coffee beans from Aldi in the transient products racks if yours still have any for €5.99 a 454g bag. I think the Guatemalan tastes a bit better but the Brazilian is great also and stronger so you can use 40% less for the same strength. I switch between the two.

Get a grinder. Can't help you there as I imported mine from the US as an attachment for a Swedish kitchen mixer/processor system you can't even buy here or in the UK.

Grind a bag of coffee caster sugar fine or slightly finer. Keep a small quantity in a container and put the rest in the freezer.

Turn on machine to heat. Fill a plastic container with enough water to fill your coffee cup and put in the microwave on high for 1:30. Machine will be ready to go most likely, put the large two-cup basket in the holder and mount them to the machine, put cup underneath the spigot of the holder and turn machine on until it's from half to full of hot water then turn off.

Remove holder and basket, and if you take sugar put in bottom of basket and fill the basket with coffee enough so when you then tamp it down it's 3mm below the lip. Fit carrier and basket to the machine. Retrieve hot water from microwave, throw out hot water in cup and replace with hot water from microwave. Count to 15 and throw out water and put cup under the spigot of the holder and turn on the machine and turn it off dependent on the colour of the stream coming out of the spigot and how strong you like your coffee and how large your cup is.

Remove the cup and then remove the holder and with a damp sponge wipe the filter in the machine where the holder went, being careful not transfer any grounds to the groove at the side where the seal is. If you wait or do this later, there will be 20 times as much to shift.

If you take milk, ignore the milk and pour a dash of cream into the cup.

    Done - double espresso.

I use a double walled stainless steel coffee cup (BergHOFF Straight Line) that has a vacuum between the walls to preserve the heat. Made in Germany, had it sent from France.
