astigimatism? and contact lenses

I asked for my latest prescription when i bought glasses.

    For each eye it is

    SPH CYL
    -1.5 -0.50

    with the axis been different.

-1.5 doesn't seem bad relatively speaking and I was told I probably shouldn't wear glasses all the time but i feel subjectively that my eyesight is too poor. Also I dislike wearing glasses. So I'm thinking to wear contacts all the time.

Since I have my prescription I was thinking of ordering contact lenses online that would also correct the astigmatism but it seems the lowest CYL
for lenses for astigmatism is -0.75. Is that correct?

    thx

Well, I have astigmatism of 1.00 and 1.25, and I am using standard contacts that are not specialised for it.

The best thing is to ask your optician to confirm, but you may be able to do standard contacts.

Cheers. I believe i can wear standard contacts for myopia as I did before I knew about astigmatism. But if i could correct astigmatism with contact, that would be the better choice. I'll ask the specsavers.

The minimum amount of cyl that can be corrected with soft contact lenses in -0.75. That's because anything below that will not make a huge impact on your vision

    Hi,

I was told by the woman at specsavers over the phone that the SPH and CYL parameters for glasses differ from the SPH and CYL of lenses.

I'm a little skeptical. When my SPH was -1.25 in each eye for a glasses prescription, my contact lense box had SPH -1.25 written on the box.

Naturally I assumed it is the same for lenses and glasses and order lenses online. But since my sight worsed to -1.5 and was told that, now i wont order contact lenses online unless I know for sure they are the same.

It may have been coincidence that they were the same then.
    THoughts?

Yes they tend to be different.

Contact lenses sit directly on your eye, glasses sit in front. So for a minus prescription the contact lenses need to be a lesser power.

If you only have a spectacles prescription and don't have a contact lens prescription I would advise you get a contact lens fit so you can find out the correct power you need as well as the other lens parameters that you need.
