My friend is receiving carer's allowance for her daughter. Her daughter is heading away for a few months to family abroad to give them both some head space. Is it possible to suspend Carer's claim for few months and reinstate when her daughter returns or does she stop it altogether?

Can't tell you for certain, but according to these guidelines - http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Carers-Allowance.aspx - if a carer leaves the state, their payment can be suspended.
    Absence from the State

Carer's allowance is not payable outside of the State. A Carer should notify the Department if leaving the State and payment of the allowance will normally be suspended for the period of absence abroad.
I'd guess that the same can be applied if the person being cared for leaves the State. Best to check with the Carer's Allowance Section in Longford for the definitive answer though.
