Shower Pump

    Hello folks,

I've a shower pump that's not working. It hasn't been used in a while and when you turn the switch on it it makes a noise for about 20 seconds then stops. Then I go to turn on the hot and cold and nothing comes out. The pump, bathroom and water tank are all located in the attic. If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

    Thanks

    Stephen

If it makes a low humming sound, most likely the capacitor is busted. Cheap enough to have repaired, or if you are handy you could try do it yourself.
Worse case scenario is the motor is seized, but usually the casing gets really hot when this happens.

When the motor is seized what do you do then to get it going because I've come across cross this and I just replace pump

Sometimes a small kick Will sort it and sometimes it needs replacing

Or a specialised tool called a lump hammer

If the motor is seized it may be the bearings which you might get free with a screwdriver in at the fan, but if the motor / windings are goosed its time for a new pump.
