Paperwork for Irish Hotel?

Do you need any confirmation of your booking in an Irish hotel when you book over the phone?

I phoned the reception to ask and they said they COULD send me one - but they didn't usually. They still haven't e-mailed me it..I am assuming they got my e-mail wrong.

Is it okay to just confirm the time we arrive a week before arrival and then come with just ID and credit card?

I usually email them to confirm they have my booking on file and they respond in the positive. I keep this email response handy in case of problems at check in.

Great idea! I phoned at 8am this morning to book (I know - I am an early bird :P) and phoned again at 2 to ask about confirmations and they had me down so that's good.

I e-mailed them requesting one before I phoned but if I don't get it by Tuesday, I reckon I will e-mail again.

It's a birthday gift so I don't want to eff this up :P

Also - would you advise e-mailing the hotel directly or using their contact forms?

I normally email them directly rather than use a contact form.
