    Hi all,

Tomorrow I am going to attempt to remove the sump and oil strainer in an attempt to stop my DV6TED4 engine killing it'self.

Looking at the sump, I think I might be able to remove it without taking out the exhaust with some creative spannering.

Has anyone done one of these, and if so are there any tips that will make my life easier?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ken

You should drain it first :D

Just whip it off, do what you need to do and put a new gasket with some gasket sealer on when you reattach it. Don't be too aggressive, you don't want to strip out any threads.

Thought these particular sumps were prone to warping once removed? = replacement required?

When replacing sumps some manufacturers recomend a tightning sequence to avoid warping.

    Thanks for all the replies!

I had a new sump costed at 40 euro from the local motor factors incase I damaged it!

I never removed the sump in the end. My inspection cam fit into the drain hole so I gave the car the colonoscopy treatment.

Everything looked pretty clean and shiney after an engine flush. The oil strainer wasn't blocked, and the turbo oil feed strainer was clear too.

I also poured 2L of clean left over oil through the engine after the flush. It came out the drain hole really black, so it did some good!

She runs much better now, without the hastle of a sump removal!
