    Hi All

Does anyone have suggestions on good jazz bands / pubs to attend during the weekend.

    Thanks
    Barr :)

Very little jazz @ the Jazz Festival!

If you are looking for jazz I'd check out the Metropole festival club and the Everyman

Hot 8 Brass Band are playing the Bodega on Friday, plan on heading in to see them - pretty cool group

    They're good craic alright

Hot 8s are excellent. They are playing there Saturday also.

Karen Underwood will be in Gallaghers a bit over the weekend. Amazing voice and worth catching.

The Metropole has gone to hell over the last decade. I have gone pretty much every year since 1995 and it has steadily gotten worse and worse and quieter and quieter each year since about 2005. last year was a wash out. No good music and hardly anyone there. At least they serve drinks in proper glasses though.

Was in the Metropole last year and it was fairly tame

The music was good enough but the venue was too big for the crowd there so it seemed fairly vacant.

My experience with the Imperial was a few years back where it was a sweaty mess, absolutely jammed and tbh I was a cut anyway so didn't enjoy it, haven't gone back since.

This year for me is about popping to Hot 8 on Friday, then checking out a few venues on Saturday with a few pints, relax and maybe head out that night for a bit of craic - Jazz by day is the way forward I believe

What about places that are child friendly during the day ?

I have been to Barrys in Douglas the last few year but fancy a change this year :)

Yeah, I miss the old days of the Metropole, particularly the small room down the back where there used to be serious jazz - solo piano sometimes, really beautiful music. But it's been gone the last three years or more. I'll still pop in during the day on Saturday and Sunday but it isn't what it used to be.

Was at Metropole last year as well, and also found it fairly quiet.

Gonna head back down to Cork Saturday, start off around the Oliver Plunkett around 5 or 6, take in some music, and probably head to the Bodega to catch Hot 8 at 9pm.

OP is a good spot for music in fairness, would expect them to have a good session going this weekend

Might pop in for a whiskey but I'd expect it to be rammed - hopefully they pull a piano outside like I've seen a few times - get a street session going
