Cambridge LLM/Oxford BCL applications

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone here has any useful info on filling out these applications. One thing I'm really wondering is which approach is better in your personal statement: saying you intend to practice in London?; Or saying you intend to return home and practice?

I've taken the tack thus far of saying I want to practice in London and a place at Oxford/Cambridge would best equip me to do that. However, if you look at any of the scholarships on offer they all want applicants that are looking to return to their home country after their masters. Is this the case in general for all applicants and would saying you want to practice in London actually damage your application?

Just be honest, hard to go wrong with honesty, and it's more likely to be credible and persuasive. If you're not sure, say you're not sure, or don't talk about it at all. I did the BCL in Oxford some years back, with an Irish training contract lined up, and I think I said as much in my application. The application is more about why Oxford is for you, study opportunities etc., rather than having your whole life figured out. You really need to personalise each application to the university.
