A couple of weeks ago I applied for a clerical officer position with the HSE Mid West region. I got called for an interview and got a letter out in the post to say I passed and they will be in contact as positions come up regarding being garda vetted and contacting references etc. Just wondering has anyone been successful in obtaining a position or have you had any feedback about roles that might be coming up. I'm hoping I might get called soon, but I do know a lot of people were interviewed and I might be down the list.

    Thanks!!

Hi Skippy - I aslo applied and got letter after interview saying what my place was on the panel - I called them and they said if and when positions come up you will be invited to express interest based on your ranking on the panel . They didn't give a time frame of when and said the panel live for between 12-18 mths . A few others know also applied and they are behind me on the panel and haven't heard anything either . To be honest - I can't see it moving before Christmas .

thanks Claregal, I got a letter (b) after my ranking number.. wonder is that of any significance? My ranking was between 15 & 20.. may i ask roughly yours or your friends? I would ideally be hoping for something in Clare but would take Limerick as well if it was offered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 603 ✭✭✭claregal1

Hi - I was also B - top 10 . Basically the way it works is there is four panels with 30 on each panel so you have 1a, 1b and so on. The first positions will be offered to 1a, 1b, 1c and 1d and they move on to 2a, 2b and that's the way the panel works . Two of the girls I worked with *( we are all doing a TCO contract with the CS) are on the C panel between 20 and 27 .
As far as I can remember from the interview all positions will be in Limerick City ? There was no mention of them being any where else I don't think.

If I hear anything from them I will post here and let you know .

My hopes aren't looking too high in getting called any time soon, as there is a least 60 people a head of me as there was 4 panels. Ya I thought it was for just limerick city but in the interview I got told that there will positions in Clare too.

One of the girls I work with they also told her that positions could be based in Tipperary but they told me that it was Limerick city only -I hope it starts moving soon enough as we are due to finish our TCO contract soon . I'll call them tomorrow and find out has the panel started moving yet and if it has what number they have reached .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Skippy21

Let me know how you get on tomorrow with them if you do ring them.. and best of look as you are higher up the panel at least you won't have hopefully as long to wait:)

I sure will - and best of luck to you too - hopefully there will be lots of jobs :)

Hi I am also on the Panel position 7c (no 27 overall) I was called in 2 to 3 weeks ago for Vetting and health forms, I got medical clearance today, I was told as soon as vetting comes they'll start offering positions, she didn't think it would be before Christmas but said it wouldn't be too long. Have either of you been called for vetting yet, just wondering did everyone get called in????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 603 ✭✭✭claregal1

Hi Treaycat , I had my vetting and health forms last week as well . She did say that she has only recieved one vetting application back from the guards and that was from an October application with getting back in November . I'm presuming it will be after Christmas myself .

I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm a lot further down the waiting list, i'm in the 60's!! So I could be waiting a long while yet.

hi, congrats on getting on panels.

may i ask what the interview was like - I actually have one wednesday this week

the application itself was very complex - 19 pages or so. with 3 representations of work senarios in past employment where demonstrated - STAR - Situation/tast/action/result.

do they use these in the interview to assertain capabilities or do they go for new examples. was the interview long ?

hope you dont mind me asking ?
any information would be very grateful

Cheers (V Nervous - its been a while since i did any interviews)

Hi Trending , know your competencies inside out is the best bit of advice I can give you . As you said what was the situation, What you did , how you did it and the outcome . Use the keywords in the examples when you are having the interview , eg how efficient, I did this in teamwork , I , I all the time. My interview was scheduled for 3.45 , I was there at 3 and they saw me straight away as two people hadn't showed before me so allow plenty of time. Interview was about 30 mins and was straight into it from the minute I sat on the chair . Two on the board and they were great at putting me at ease but it was straight down to business. Best of luck, I'm sure you will do great x

Know the HSE inside out . I used an example of miniorty groups that the HSE cater for , eg travellers , social exclusion etc. Don't use the every day services that everyone knows about like , dental etc , health nurses etc .

Apparently the HSE, in general, will be advertising a large volume of clerical and admin posts from January 2017..

Have any of you got your Garda Vetting clearance yet, I wonder how long does that take? I was told jobs were waiting to filled as soon as Vetting came through. Cross fingers it won't be too long.

Hi Treatycat , no haven't recieved clearance yet , just the online application through email with my number . I have already been cleared twice this year for TCO positions and both times only took about 3 weeks or so , so going by previous time frames I'm hoping to get my clearance within the next two weeks or so .

Thanks it seems to be taking ages, they rang referees last week hope that's a good sign. HR did tell me that some vetting forms are back.

Hi Treaycat - I got my vetting back today and references etc have been checked and verified . Have you been offered a position yet ? Just wondering what the time frame between vetting and bring offered a position

    Hi Claregal1

I got my vetting clearance back on December 6th and referees' were contacted before that but I still haven't anything. I'm 27 on waiting list are you before or after me?

Hi- I'm after you 30 I think I am . (9B ) Will deft be January at this stage I would imagine .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭Treatycat

I'd say so. Even though the lady in PR came me the impression (when I went in to fill out my forms) that we'd be called as soon as vetting was through she said they were trying to push vetting through as soon as possible to fill posts.
If I'm called before you I'll let you know.

Hi hope ye don't mind me joining in on the thread. I also interviewed for these jobs. I am from Clare. I got 5A which I was told was 17th on the panel. I have got my vetting back on the 20th December. I got an offer of acceptance for a special purpose position in Ennis which I am very happy with but no start dates or anything. Do ye know from receiving a letter of acceptance how long the starting date could be from then? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭Treatycat

Just saw your post now, I would have thought they would have given you a start date by now. Do you mind me asking how long of a contract did you get was it just 3 months? Also did you request Ennis I thought jobs were for Limerick?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 Sammyd80

I only got the letter of acceptance on the 21st December by email. It only named the place where I was to start. I then had to sign it & return it stating when I would be available from there was no other information on it. I was just wondering could it take another month or 2 from now to start or would it b quick enough!! I am currently unemployed so I rang to try and get more information as I need to sort creches & that but the HR lady couldn't give me anymore info. I didn't request Ennis but am delighted to get it thought like that the work would be in Limerick.

That's not great how can you accept a job when you don't know the duration or start date. As I said before I am 27 on that panel but I am starting a 19 week contract with revenue on the 9th of January. Can u let me know when you get a start date as I'm not sure which one I'll take

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 Sammyd80

Exactly! She did say to me though not to do anything until I heard further from her so I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Do you know if when you have the contract finished can you be kept on further or could I be offered another contract or is that it? Congrats on your contract with Revenue . I will let you know when I hear more.

Officially its supposed to be just what you are given (3 months) but I think it may be extended if you are lucky. Cross fingers you get a longer

    Hi Sammy D and Treatycat

Just wondering have you any updates on your positions yet . It seems to have ground to a halt for me although I did get my clearance back and medicals have been verified . Thanks

Hi Claregal, yes sorry I forgot to post. I was contacted by HR again the 1st week of January. They had a start date of the 16th January and it was to cover a maternity leave that could be extended.
I didn't end up taking the position as I also got offered another job with another company (nothing to do with HSE or anything) & I went with this instead. Hopefully you will hear soon.

    Hi Claregal

I was contacted last week and offered 18.5 hours long term contract I'm starting today so I'd say its moving. Hope you get offered something soon.

Hi everyone. Quick question - anyone whose been already offered a post, did you get a "expression of interest" via email first as to where you would like to work? I was told at the Garda vetting part that I'd get an email following the Garda vetting clearance. This has come through but heard nothing since.

Treatycat is the 18.5 hours over 2/3 days or more?

No haven't got the expression of interest form yet , but did get a call from HR last week asking what area I was from and was I interested in full or part time work . Also recieved my medical clearance forms in the post last week but no other movement other than that .

I work 2 days one week and 3 days following so it means I have 5 working days on 5 off. eg. Thurs/ Frid. First week & Mon/Tues/Wed following week

I was offered 18.5 I didn't get offered full time but my contract is long term so maybe I would have got a full time contract with short contract . I didn't realise we had an option it certainly wasn't offered to me and I did say I was hoping for full time.

Same as that I did say full-time when she called , she said she was just compiling a data base ...

Thanks so much for your reply. That's great to know they ask and you're not just given a position - take it or leave it kinda thing. Best of luck with it all.

Hi guys - back again with more questions !
How long were you both waiting between the time you recieved the offer to receiving the contract and start date ?
I recieved my offer early this week but no contract or start date and a friend of mine who was after me on the panel also recieved her offer with a start date for next week ... granted it is only a 6 mth maternity contract so I'm wondering if this has any effect on the delay in me receiving my contract ?
Also can you carry over any service to the HSE from previous Civil Service jobs ? Thanks

I have just been called for Garda Vetting so it's slowly moving along for me.. Have it next week, have to go and meet them is there much of a process involved in that? Also are most of the positions only a couple months work, I would be hoping for something more long term, not just a couple months of a contract?

Hi Skippy21 - Well you are nearly there if you are called in for Garda Vetting you must be in the next group to be allocated jobs I presume. Going to to fill out forms is very informal you just have to fill out forms and get your documentation photocopied. I cant remember when I was called in (you will see on earlier thread) but I was waiting about 2 months after that. The jobs being offered seem to vary you could get a maternity leave which would probably be up to a year. I was offered a temporary job filling a permanent post which was meant to be long term but now they have announced a permanent panel campaign which means I have to apply for this panel. If I fail to make the panel then my job will have to be filled from this permanent panel. Therefor you may be better off if your post is a temporary not permanent. Hope this helps. Also by the way pay is rubbish!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Skippy21

    Hi treatycat,

Thanks for your reply, have you to apply for the permanent position through the normal process like everyone else through the HSE website or might you not have to go through all the steps as you are already doing the job?

Ya I know the pay is terrible but would be hoping in the long term that the benefits of a government job might out weight the pay. But like that I would be hoping for a long term contract or hoping maybe once you get in at all that I would be kept.
    Do you like the work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 603 ✭✭✭claregal1

Hi Skippy -I was offered a two month contract and turned it down - all these positions will be filled by the permanent panel I was told which is why the contracts are so short . Hope this helps

I have to apply the same route as everyone else . The money isn't great but I like the job and would love to be made permanent

It's about 2 3 weeks . I got offered another position after turning down the last contract and I've no end date on my contract - it's an open ended contract .
