Smoke alarm won't stop chirping

My upstairs smoke alarm started chirping at 6pm yesterday. It's one of those ones that are also collected to the mains. There is another one in the hallway downstairs.

Anyway, I followed all the instructions for changing the battery. I switched off the circuit breaker for upstairs. I removed the old battery. Pressed the button for 30 seconds to reset it. Put in the new battery. Screwed in the machine. Reset the circuit breaker. It won't work.

I've tried it 20 times at least. No matter what I do I cannot get it to be quiet. I replaced the battery 3 times also.

Can anyone help me? It's driving me insane.

Think you need to change BOTH batteries

If it doesn't work when you replace both batteries, replace the smoke alarms. They generally have a life of 10 years anyway, which you might be near?

The same happened me. Annoying !! Changing all batteries should fix it.

Just hold the button on the one downstairs (as if to test it). That should sort it. Drove me absolutely insane trying to figure it out the first time.

Is it also a carbon monoxide alarm?

Sometimes with these things you are at the wrong one, sound can be funny that way.

Some of them constantly chirp when they are over the 10 years old. They loose their detection ability when they get older.
