Plumbing behind Ikea kitchen cabinets

    Hi Folks,
Extension works under way, planning on installing an Ikea kitchen, and want to make the installers job as painless and as cheap as possible. Question is, will I have to recess the sink and dishwasher plumbing into the wall behind the kitchen units. The plumbing will run behind most of the remainder of the kitchen, all drawers. Do the drawers require the full depth to operate? I guess they do, so I am thinking the best thing is to recess the pipework. Am I mad?

Should be no need to recess anything.

We're just after self installing an ikea kitchen. Theres no room really behind the units, maybe 5mm at unit edges. We brought the plumbing for the sink into that unit, and for the dishwasher under the units. Theres about 80mm below the units.

There's only around 40mm between the back of the drawer and the back of the unit. In our case all the plumbing for the dishwasher and washing machine feeds to under the sink too. The two appliances are at either side of the sink unit.

Not a big deal if it's just units with shelves, but drawers (as in the big ones) could throw up problems with waste pipe.

Yep, thats my concern, all big drawers, with a 3m run, so i dont think ill get the fall with the 80mm under the units.

Is the kitchen on a floating timber floor? Could u bring them under the floor?

We're talking waste pipe here, so it would have to be higher.
Talk to the installer, it will probably be possible to sort all this when the bare carcasses are in. If it's against an outside wall it might be easier to just run the pipe outside behind the appliances
Print a screenshot of the plans off the ikea planner if you have it on there.
Is there any reason to not have the appliances beside the sink? if it's all 600mm units you could swap around no bother.
