TV License

So the tv license inspector just called and he saw that I have a tv for which I only use to watch Netflix. The tv is not connected to cable or satellite so I don't have a license. When the inspector saw the tv he said "That's all I needed to see" and proceeded to fill out a yellow docket with my name and address on it. On the part where it says Result Code and Description of TV he just wrote -NS. So I'm presuming he saw that my tv was not connected to cable or anything. I'm also presuming that I should not be expecting a letter in the door next week telling me to pay a fine as the inspector didn't warn me that I had broken the law by not having a license, in fact he was very nice. So I'm safe then yes?

This forum is aimed a technical questions rather than matters of law so your question is misplaced on this forum. However, in simple terms, the law requires you to have a TV licence if you own a television, whether you have it connected to a service or whether you even turn it on at all is immaterial, if you own it, then you need to have a licence. I would expect that in due course you will get a letter notifying you of the need to obtain a to licence - if the TV licence inspector's visit was due to you ignoring numerous previous letters asking you to get a licence, then I wouldn't be surprised if the next step was a summons (i.e. a prosecution).

I see that you have an identical thread opened elsewhere on Boards so I'm closing this thread as discussion of the law etc is not appropriate for this forum.

    Cheers,

    Ritz.
