    Hi,
I am looking to change my 1.4 06 Focus as I am now driving ~ 40 thousand Kms pa.
Mainly looking for fuel efficiency, nice to drive, a bit more power and hopefully something reliable.
No kids etc so not too concerned about space.

Budget is fairly flexible but I would like to keep between 10-15K if it's possible to get something decent in that range.
    Thanks for you help

With annual mileage of 40k km you should put comfort towards the top of your list too. Maybe look at something from the class above the Focus/Golf and the higher up the class you the more comfortable the car tends to be.

If your going to diesel, and Im guessing theres a chance you will just be weary of 1.5 & 1.6 diesel options. These engines can be fine but if not properly cared for and maintained by previous owners you could be getting yourself into a world of pain. Also the supposed better fuel efficiency is marginal in the real world. Older 1.9 diesels in the audi/vw/skoda/seat and the newer 2.0 diesels seem to be a better engine.

If it were me with those list of requirememts id consider a Jag X-Type, Hyundai Sonata, Volvo S60, Kia Optima or Hknda Accord.

If you want some poke don't buy the basic diesel offering. It might immediately seem quicker than the focus but going from a 1.6 diesel to a 2 litre makes a big difference. Decent headlights are worth looking for - xenon's or LEDs. Bigger cars usually mean more comfort but the seats make a huge difference so make sure to try as long a test drive as you can.

After that cruise control, climate control are handy. Small wheels mean cheaper tyres and better ride. Auto lights and wipers, auto dim mirrors.
