HSE confirmation of residence letter

    Hello everyone,
I received a letter from the HSE, asking me to sign a letter which confirms I am resident in the state. They wrote something about how they understand so many people have emigrated etc, and they want to make sure people using medical cards live in Ireland.

Did anyone else get this, out of the blue or because you lived in a different country previously?? Do the HSE have access to my bank account personal details? Are they trying to catch me out? I use an Emrati address of my parents for my bank, as I. Don't want letters to be sent to my shared house, my housemates open my mail. I know this is wrong.

Take the tin foil hat off. If you've a medical card the HSE can and will send letters to confirm if you are still in the country just as the DSP do for the monthly child benefit. They pay a monthly fee to your doctor as long as the card is active. If you're not in the country you no longer eligible and the card will be cancelled. It's a cost cutting exercise.

Just sign the form updated with the correct address ( its an offensive to provide false information ) and move on with your life.

    hi op,
As its after hours i have to ask ,are you smoking the ould green sod after your travels?

its a simple letter to ask you kindly to sign to confirm your here ,years ago we would take it for granted you got a medical card that it was a mortal sin to get rid it.

now it's a bit of software cross checking details with ports etc that stops doctors from having congac baths with the "never take it away" card fee..

and Irish people thinking everybody is out to get them

What Mr McBoatface said (and for the record, I'm very sorry you were reduced to a mere lifeboat, you deserved greater things). No, they don't have access to your bank records and as long as you are resident in the country and meet the previous conditions, you're okay. I didn't understand Emrati address, but unless it's an address in the United Arab Emirates or something, you're probably okay.

It's nothing more than a ready check if you'll excuse the gaming term.

Edit: Even if it IS, while you might have a bit of explaining to do to the bank, it's probably alright as long as -you- are resident in Ireland.

Even as we speak there is a team of Consultants and Doctors with their attendant nursing staff, in St. James' Hospital, poring over your Direct Debits, Standing Orders and recent ATM withdrawals.

Be glad you get free healthcare and comply with the letter.

Maybe, just maybe, give them a call. That might clear things up.

By the way, moving a question that the OP is worried about to AH is kinda harsh on the OP. Wouldn't this be better off...I dunno, somewhere it'd be taken semi-seriously?

Here, he'll come away with paranoia, cancer and possibly flying mice under the bed.

Yeah, the State Benefits forum would get a better response.

Would you believe I was reading this page when someone showed me one of these letters to get my opinion. In this case the person was born in Scotland but has been here for decades. I reckon the HSE were half hoping that he had gone back to the land of his birth so that they could get him off the books so to speak.

The Medical Card is means tested for most holders so you must make your bank accounts available for the social welfare to examine as evidence of your income. On what grounds are you the holder of a medical card? if you are disabled, Blind etc there is no means testing afaik

    Hold on a second...

WHY are your housemates opening your mail?

Tell'em to stop, or you'll get onto the gards about it.

Yeah, that bit stood out to me as well!

You have more problems than just a letter from the HSE, OP!

They don't have access to your account etc. They are just updating their records. It's nothing to worry about.

Maybe the OP is not in the country to open their own post?

Not according to this comment in the OP:

Mods who can't be arsed doing what they're meant to, have always dumped stuff in AH. Goes with the territory I suppose.

I highly doubt anyone is out to get you. I'm sure this is a letter than many medical card holders have received - not every holder is a good honest person you know.

They are absolutely entitled, and imo quite right, to check out those on their list because lets face it, there are plenty of people, Irish and non-Irish who are more than happy to sit back and allow the state to pay for everything when they can easily afford it themselves.

You have supplied with false or misleading information though and you need to put that right before anything else.
