    Car is a 2001 1.9 Passat diesel.
I was quoted around 800 by FBD for car insurance renewal. That was up from 650ish last year.
Minus a bit of haggling/IFA token etc, 750 euro. Bought last Friday.

Local broker couldn't get near this price at all.

Today tried Bank of Ireland motor insurance online, and they came in at 521 euro.

Thats TPF&T, breakdown cover, first 5000 euro legal costs, driving other cars etc, NCD protection.

Think I'll cancel the FBD tomorrow and go with these ones.

Worth a try for anyone near renewal time.

I think it's illegal for companies to give a cheaper price based on gender now, EU bring in a rule for that maybe?

It is indeed, but it would appear that some insurance companies are quoting females a lower price; no doubt the relevant insurance companies have a ready made excuse for doing so.

Cheapest quote I heard recently was with Alliance, €250, up from €165 this year. But there's a catch, you have to be working for Alliance:(

Fbd just send in a renewal notice for my folks quashqui, 975euros! Both have full ncb etc. I'll be shopping around to say the least, 2bh I think I'll move away from fbd even if they do match any lower premium, that price is utterly raking the piss.

I am waiting for a call back from broker on farm quote. Can't see them being any dearer than FBD

    That's unreal, €575 here minus €75 IFA Discount , so €500 comp for a 15 RAV 4.
2012 HILUX plus IW trailer is €500 as well

Yea, we left them on point of principle, just gouging up prices to see if idiots will just pay up without questioning.

That will come down a few hundred when you haggle
FBD's CEO was on radio after their results saying they didn't rise farm insurance either because of the tough times we had
    They did
    I saved €1500 by leaving
They didn't even try to compete
They are like the IFA,couldn't run a tap

Fbd are so far removed from the farmers that set them up. Our renewal is up on Monday, no contact from fbd yet. If you look at their website , farm insurance is set up by farmers for farmers!

Could be right there, it's a pity for farm ins the options are only FBD or broker & brokers have only Zurich or Aviva as options.
    Not enough competition

Got a call a while ago from FBD, I said I am just getting a few other prices and would be back to them on Friday with what I intend to do. She started telling me that there was no comparison with the cover from zurich/aviva and fbd's cover.....

Of course she did and I suppose she told you how under insured you are and listed off 100 others things you need to insure.

She was saying we wouldnt have glass cover on the tractors, we dont have that anyway with fbd......... Ah , she is to go back to the under writers and see if she can cut anything off it, so we will see.

Zurich give glass cover on third party f&t. Way better cover in other areas as well. Livestock in transit is one.

Ended up staying with fbd, broker didnt save me anything . They were way out on farm jeep and also on my dad's car. Not worth changing this year

Went from Fbd to axa this year with car, will be pricing around for farm insurance elsewhere next year to see

broker wanted me to have farm with them-minimal saving- and get jeep insurance with fbd, total cost would have been above what I paid fbd. Was under alot of pressure on Friday and could probably have played one off the other but wasnt worth the hassle

Was that car insurance? My son who's 21 has 2 years no claims with his own insurance. 1800 with axa last with that app thing and 1900 this year, not so bad I thought with the way insurance was going up that it would be a lot more, thank fcuk not :)

they gave me the best quote too! it was only a few euro lower than my renewal quote (after haggling) so i didnt bother changing. The name "its for women" is just a title, they have to insure you.
