    Hey guys,
Just wanted to get some advice on this car
    http://www.usedcarsni.com/2016-Vauxhall-Astra-GTC-1-4-i-Turbo-16v-Limited-Edition-3dr-170848722

Would it be a bad idea to purchase that car or something similar up north due to it being a Vauxhall rather than opel? Only downside is the lack of proper warranty.
Would rather the Opel GTC's here but they are just way more expensive and lower spec.
Planning on keeping it for at least 5+ years so not too fussed about resale
Had my eyes on the Scirocco but majority for sale are just too expensive as several 2013-2014 are over 19.5k with minimal spec.
    I have a budget of around 18-19k

    Thanks

The speedo will be primarily mph instead of kph or mph only. It's a special model so should be desireable no matter, keeping a good service history will be most important at resale time.

Are you aware if the car is less than 6 months old you will be liable for VAT on it as well as the VRT? Looks like it was first registered on 12 January 2016 https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/.
When is VAT chargeable and payable?

For VAT purposes a new means of transport is a goods or passenger vehicle that meets either one of the following two criteria:

It is a new means of transport if it is a motor vehicle or motor-cycle (other than a tractor) supplied six months or less after the date of its first entry into service.
It is a new means of transport if it is a motor vehicle or motor-cycle (other than a tractor) that has travelled 6,000 kilometres or less at the time the vehicle is first presented for registration.

If the vehicle meets either of these criteria the vehicle is treated as a new means of transport for VAT purposes and VAT is chargeable at registration.

Thanks I only realised from your post about the VAT liability so cheers for the heads up, I will more and likely go for a 2014-2015 for better value.
Would you recommend any other special advice if I am going up north? I have seen from other boards post that there is no RAC checks done in NI so that might be a major issue.

Price one here. You might be surprised what you'll get one for. With the new model coming there has to be a deal to be done.

The north can be good if you spot the exact car your looking for and it turns out good when you view but the range is nowhere near the larger car supermarkets in the UK so for the GTC you may only find a tiny amount to view and they could be scattered all over the place. The advantage with the north is cheaper to import the car in that you don't need flights and then ferry getting the car back but having said that the cars in NIRL will normally be that much more expensive.

That car you were looking at was originally UK and then brought in to the north, how you know is all northern cars will have 3 letters followed by numbers, the UK stuff have mainly 2 letters, 2 numbers and then followed by letters. Always do a HPI check even if buying from a dealer, can show up stuff that may not seem obvious from looking at the car like if it has been out of tax a long time or if it's recorded damaged.

As Gustavo said price one here you'd be could be very surprised how much of a discount you may get. You may still get a very good deal on a 162 I got around €5500 of the list price of a new Zafira SE and a free tow bar 3 weeks ago! Opel are doing 0% hire purchase over 3 years with a 50% deposit so less money up front to.

They are currently offering 0% PCP on 171s so you can probably still get a good deal if you want to wait. Lot depends on how long you want to keep the car for you may get a better deal now but you'll lose some of that in resale.
