    Hi there,

Brought my car to the garage to get fixed after it kept attempting to cut out even when going 100kmh. He said it was a faulty dash and his English wasn't the best so he couldn't elaborate any more. Charged 150 for it. Wondering if anyone could she'd some more light on it?

if it was 1500 quid id definitely be asking more. 150 notes and the car is fixed, even if it leaves you curious, its a small sum to fix it, be grand.

Maybe you could try to put some sort of a question together that we could possibly shed some light upon?

Basically what the car was doing for me was attempting to cut out when driving through town and then towards the end prior to fixing I was driving at 100kmh at it started doing the same. Now I couldn't get an answer from the mechanic at all. All he kept referring to was a "faulty dash" all problems sorted but wondering could any one have an idea what a "faulty dash" could be in relation to a car cutting out as the explanation he gave seemed very vague.

Your explanation of a car is very vague, Make / Model /Year / Petrol or Diesel?
That would be a good start.

Between his command of the English language, and your command of the same language I think you are best to hire an interpreter.
I cannot make sense of either of your vague posts and without model details it will be difficult for others to do the same.

Remind me not to ask a question after a 13 hour shift again :p

Basically here it is; Ford Focus 05 petrol. Tge problem was what appeared to be attempts by the car to cut out and stall when driving. Normal driving, nothing out of the ordinary and it felt like less power was going to the engine. Holding it at a steady pace everything was ok, problem occured when I slowed or gained speed even happened with out changing gears.

When were plugs and coilpack done last?

Tbh, I'd go back and in a nice way enquire some more - in case it happens again. There has to be someone at the place who speaks English

That's the Mk1 alright! Found out the hard frustrating way that the leads weren't labelled when we took them all off to change at the same time! :o

I immediately thought "Ford" after the dash was mentioned. What happened on both my parents Mk. 1 Focuses (different cars, different times) what that that Vehicle Speed Sensor went faulty any caused the speedo to drop to 0 mph. to most people this looks like a faulty dashboard, but is caused by something else.

Researching the problem at the time, other people seemed to have further issues with either the same or similar sensor that would cause the car to cut out.

mk1 Focus ST170 had a dash that went berserk and lit up everything. Very worrying but it went back to normal and never caused any more trouble. I was so concerned I bought a replacement dash for it. (still have it if anyone wants an ST170 dash to brighten their Focus up)

If thats an 05 on focus instrument clusters can go faulty causing the problems youre describing.
There is an internal fault in the cluster where a solder joint breaks so its possible he repaired that.
